Anger And Apathy Lyrics
I’ve tried to find reconciliation behind the walls of those whose hatred burns.
For I find it easier to reach someone who still feels,
than to make amends with passionless apathy.
Where all lines are the same a portrait cannot be made.
I need to burn inside. I need to know that you are alive.
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger
than indifference for those too weak to stand.
Like a colorless sky over a sea of nothingness,
hatred faces its enemies while apathy strikes furtively.
I need to burn inside. I need to know that you are alive.
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger
than indifference for those too weak to stand.
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger
than indifference for those too weak to stand...
Until our anger burns against injustice, we will create
the faceless by dismissing those forced to concede.
Many of us have turned off the light outside, erasing what exists beyond our front door.
And for you I find it harder to reach common ground than my most glaring opposition.
But what about those who’ve lost the luxury of choice?
...striving for identity, buried by our lack of interest, souls marked as mere history.
How much grievance will it take to awaken us?
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger
than indifference for those too weak to stand.
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger
than indifference for those too weak to stand...
How much grievance will it take to awaken us from the comfort of our homes?
...the comfort of our oversized graves.
I’ve tried to find reconciliation... I’ve tried to find reconciliation...
For I find it easier to reach someone who still feels,
than to make amends with passionless apathy.
Where all lines are the same a portrait cannot be made.
than indifference for those too weak to stand.
hatred faces its enemies while apathy strikes furtively.
than indifference for those too weak to stand.
I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger

But what about those who’ve lost the luxury of choice?

I believe the song describes the increasing frustration Lambesis experience while attempting to convey his message to people. It is as though he is losing faith in humanity and "needs to know that feelings of discontent are stronger than indifference" in the population. What purpose does he serve if no one cares enough to listen to what he is saying, if no one cares about the plight of the the untold masses that live everyday in agony? We block the suffering of others from our minds by turning "off the light outside, erasing what exists beyond our front door," and consume ourselves with "the comfort of our oversized graves." He is disgusted with our modern apathy to such a great extent that he finds more "common ground" with his "greatest opposition" than a person who cares nothing for what is beyond the familiar. Nevertheless, Lambesis believes, must believe, that we are simply hiding behind "the walls of those whose hatred burns" vice accepting that we simply do not care about our fellow man.
ok this songs a little hard to understand but i THINK its talking about how God wants us to not be comfortable with just the "christian routine"... you know.... go to church, read the bible, pray, and thats it... He wants us to get out there and evangelize and serve Him and sometimes He will have to get our attention..... and the more stubborn we are He might use different measures to "awaken us from the comfort of our homes"
That's overall what I was trying to say in a way. You said it better than I did lol

To me this song is about us trying to witness about Christ to hopeless causes, and not having the courage enough to tell people who actually want to hear it. "I've tried to find reconciliation behind the walls of those whose hatred burn." I'm lost on a few lines such as the clean vocals "I need to know that feelings of discontent are stronger than indifference for those too weak to stand"....From "many of us have turned off the light inside..." to "how much grievance will it take..." is overall where I've gotten my interpretation. If it's totally off than my bad, lol. Thats just what I got from it
he just wants to know that "feelings of discontent", people who are unhappy with the way the world is, are "stonger than indefference", people who are content to let the world continue on its destuctive path

I don't want to discourage anyone's opinion on the meaning of this or offend any one who is religious, but I'll attempt to offer an interpretation that is not associated with God. Anyways, I believe that this song is directed towards people who are constantly bitch about how much their life sucks when in all honesty it's not even that bad. I think what Tim Lambesis was going for, was to get people to realize that they're not the only ones who have to deal with the trials of adversity and that there are people with even worse problems. The line that really summarizes the song is in the "I need to know thar feelings of discontent are stronger than indifference, for those to weak to stand." I think what Tim is going for with this, was to get people to ask themselves "Since when are your problems more important than those who know real agony?" So in conclusion, I believe that this song is just telling people to stop pondering over small problems and enjoy your life, because there are people with even worse problems. I'm not saying this is the official meaning, it's just my opinion.
i see your point but thats what i think the song "beyond our suffering" is talking about

I thought the meaning of this song was pretty clear. He's saying that if he's going to try and reach someone, he'd rather it be someone who is angry and fed up with their situation than someone who is content living in their misery. Because at least the angry people realize something is wrong and have the will to change it.
i think it has to do with all us americans that feels comfortable with doing whst they do on an average persons life, i think its kinda saying were in some type of slavery by the government. Idk i just thought that cause their album title is The Powerless Rise, and in the song he says "ive tried to find reconciliation" and reconciliation means to change standards, and an average day person has the same standards basically, and he says "how much grievance will it take to awaken us from the comfort of our home" and grievance means inflicting stronger attitude or pressure on someone, so i think its saying something along the lines of slavery or everyday rules. so overall i think it means we can all be the powerfull ones. idk im just thinking out loud. but thats just my guess
i think its about fighting injustice in society many people get angry abt bad things happening like corruption etc etc yet anger or feeling of discontent is never converter to action like some one said apathy means lack of action so singer is saying he belives our anger of injustice should be stronger then apathy so come on fight against all injustices corruption ;) lol
I think that this song is talking less about the people being witnessed to and more about the people doing the witnessing.
He's saying that most people can see the evil in the world, but don't care enough to do anything about it or assume that they can't change anything. He says that we should burn inside with anger against injustices or we'll never get anything done. And the chorus is rallying believers to show their "feelings of discontent".
I love how he says that he'd rather face "glaring opposition" than someone who doesn't care. Awesome.
Yeah this song is definitely about feelings toward injustice, thats for sure.

Its quite bad that most people seem to think that just because they're a Christian band that their songs must be in some way related to religion/god.
This song is about anger, although not a good thing, being better than apathy because it shows passion and a desire to change the things that are wrong. If everyone ignores the bad things around them then they will never change and what he is saying here is that he would rather come face to face with an enemy than someone who has simply given up and has no fire left in them
