| Agent Ribbons – birds and bees Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think the lyrics actually go: *til my silly dreams bore a creature who seems to harbor such simple gladness it shook me Which seems to make more sense. |
|
| Tegan and Sara – I Bet It Stung Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I always thought the words were; "Tell me if you love me like you think you want to be in love", as in, "The way that you feel for me, is this the way that you've always wanted it? Is this the "true love" you've been waiting for your whole life? Is this what you were dreaming to have?" And I can really connect with that; I think everyone asks themselves that at least once in each relationship. |

| Parenthetical Girls – Four Words Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I've always loved this song; it really captures that moment when you tell someone you love them, and they give you those four magic words in return; "I love you, too". | |
| Dev – In the Dark Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Just realized that this title's lyrics are already posted under "In The Dark". My apologies for causing a second entry (though, as this is a title I've seen it as quite a bit myself, maybe it'll actually run some traffic, hahah..) | |
| Pretty Girls Make Graves – The Magic Hour Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I love this song; it sounds, well.. magical. It makes me feel strangely powerful, like I'm in on a big secret. | |
| Lady GaGa – Hair Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
These lyrics need to be updated to be complete; here's what I feel is most accurate (I could be wrong in a few places); "Whenever I'm dressed cool, My parents put up a fight. And if I'm a hot shot, Mom will cut my hair at night. And in the morning, I'm short of my identity. I scream Mom and Dad, Why can't I be who I wanna be? I just wanna be myself, And I want you to love me for who I am. I just wanna be myself, And I want you to know, I am my hair. I've had enough, this is my prayer, That I'll die living just as free as my hair. I've had enough, this is my prayer, That I'll die living just as free as my hair. I've had enough, I'm not a freak, I'm just here trying to (play/stay?) cool on the streets I've had enough, enough, enough, And this is my prayer, I swear, I'm as free as my hair. I'm as free as my hair. I am my hair. I am my hair. As free as my hair, hair, hair, Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair, Hair, hair, hair, Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair. As free as my hair, hair, hair, Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair Hair, hair, hair, Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair. (Sometimes I waltz around, Put on red highlights/Sometimes I want some rocket/rockin' red highlights?) Just because I want my friends, To think I'm dynamite. And on Friday rocks in, High school dance. I got my bangs too hot, That I don't stand a chance. Ha-ha-ha-hair. I just want to be free, I just want to be me And I want lots of friends who invite me to their parties. I don't wanna change, and I don't wanna be ashamed. I'm the spirit of my Hair, it's all the glory that I bare. I am my hair, I am my hair I'm my hair, I am my hair I am my hair, I am my hair I am my hair, I am my hair (It's all the glory that I bare) I am my hair, I am my hair It's all the glory that I bare I am my hair, I am my hair I'm my hair, yeah, yeah (All the glory that I bare) I'm my hair, yeah, yeah (All the glory that I bare) I'm my hair, yeah, yeah (All the glory that I bare) I'm my hair, yeah, yeah, yeah I've had enough, this is my prayer, That I'll die living just as free as my hair. I am my hair." I'm not sure on the things in parenthesis with question marks (my friends and I have a few differing opinions on those); if there are official lyrics out already, then feel free to disregard this; it's late and I just wanted to see them up here, hahah. As far as the song goes: this is basically my anthem. I love it so, so much. Another success! |

And also, "'Cause there's another *party?" Sorry for the double comment, it's way too early for me to be awake. X: |
|
| Lissy Trullie – She Said Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Is it perhaps *In the south of France she said? Makes more sense, considering this individual is an international gal (passports, etc). | |
| Lady GaGa – Judas Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song is fucking fabulous. I'm sure a bunch of people are going to complain about her sound changing, but I think she's not so much changing as she is expressing her wide range as an artist. I love love love this track. | |
| The Thermals – I Might Need You To Kill Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I always thought it was "Nazi payloads".. | |
| The Cassettes – The Improbable Solution Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song. It's so smooth and mellow, with a tinge of sadness. An old friend of mine gave this to me on a mix CD a long while ago, and I remember him when it comes around on shuffle. It's kind of heartbreaking; I miss him a lot. | |
| Why? – These Few Presidents Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I've always taken this song to be about someone who you once loved that becomes consumed by a desire for perfectionism, succumbing to idealism and cosmetic surgery. Your loving turns to loathing and you grow apart. At least, that's what I draw from it. |
|
| No Doubt – Simple Kind Of Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I know this is a way-late response, but, I've always assumed it to mean shells in the sense of bullet casings (which are often referred to as "shells"). It paints a vivid picture for me, anyway, as if she's been shot down/used all of her ammo up in the fight for love and lost. | |
| Blonde Redhead – For The Damaged Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I just finally found a copy of this song a few days ago, and I can't stop listening to it. It makes me cry every time; it really hits straight to my core. I've been a huge Blonde Redhead fan for over seven years now, and I regret not having this in my collection sooner. | |
| L7 – Everglade Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I fucking love this song! So much energy. | |
| L7 – Can I Run Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think the lyrics are actually "is he under the bed, is he in the backseat?" Regardless, I think this song has an obvious meaning; she's afraid of getting raped and is taking every possible precaution. It's a powerful song. |
|
| L7 – American Society Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Fucking epic. L7 is timeless. I wish I could go back in time and see them live. These lyrics are still vital and applicable, even after all this time. | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Step Aside Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This always gets me dancing! It's so epic. | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Prisstina Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song; I can't quite tell if they're chastising her for not "living life", or if they're applauding her for putting her studies ahead of "fun". Either way, I adore it. I can identify with Prisstina's dilemma; everyone around me is having a lot of fun, but at what cost? | |
| The Carrots – Doing our part Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I adore this song; it's got a nice, cheery vibe to it, but if you really analyze the lyrics, it appears to be about someone who's trying to escape a humdrum small town life, which I myself can relate to very well. | |
| Hannah Georgas – Let's Talk Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is one of the sweetest, most innocent love songs I've heard in a while. The meaning is fairly straightforward, but it's perfect. | |
| Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Incentive Dealers – Entangled Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My interpretation is that this is about a closeted gay relationship, where one partner wants to be out but the other is too afraid. "Bright light never fear It wont be long you're gonna decohere 'Till then, you're mine Spinning with me all of the time" - Decoherenence, if I'm understanding it correctly, is the state of being unaffected by outside influences. While his lover fears "bright lights" (being "out" in public), the singer is sure he'll come around eventually. "You can run across the sky I will stand here on the ground" - Perhaps the saddest lyrics; he maintains his lover's closeted state, thus making the other happy, but making the singer himself sad, being the more realistic of the two. "If you go up then I'll go down They could never ever know" - Again, another example of how they keep from being known; opposite states. It could also be read as indicating sex (go up and go down; sixty-nine? a guess), which is secret. "I'm entangled with you" - The singer is stuck with his lover, but being "entangled" endears a sort of trapped feeling. He's trapped by the closet his lover has forced them into. "Two guys two cabs two on two out Two balls two strikes two down in the heart" - This took me MONTHS to really interpret. After their dates, they (two guys) leave separately (two cabs), maintaining their straight visage (two on); however, they -ARE- gay (two out), and denying this fact is going to ruin them (two balls, two strikes; baseball terminology. they've missed their opportunity to advance) and leave them heartbroken (two down in the heart). "At last, a silver mirror; Don't look, you're gonna disappear All gone in a flash It's our loss, a total collapse" - The partner is faced with himself (a silver mirror); the lover is relieved (at last) but doesn't think his partner will stay faced with the truth. "I'm entangled with you And there's nothing I'd rather do Nothing I'd rather do" - The singer accepts the relationship where it is, despite the hardship. Perhaps, the lover came out (when faced with the "silver mirror"). |

| The Breeders – Mad Lucas Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song makes me really mellow, but kind of depressed. Are these lyrics accurate? I'm not sure. I wish I knew the meaning. | |
| Never Shout Never – What Is Love? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song sounds kind of upbeat, but it's also very sad; it gets me dancing and near tears when I hear it. Such a beautiful song, with just the right dose of sadness and honesty to make it believable and easy to empathize with. It drains me, to an extent; it wears down all those floodgates on my heart and I really feel connected to it. I'm sure it has that effect on a lot of people (especially in this generation of high divorce rates). It's brilliant. | |
| The Raveonettes – You Want The Candy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love it! It's kind of bittersweet. | |
| L7 – Moonshine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorite songs, ever. L7 is such a great band; I wish I had been born sooner so I could experience them live. This song, to me, is about a long-distance relationship, or being far away from your loved ones. The narrator takes a walk alone at night, and isn't afraid because she knows that, wherever that special someone is, they're looking up at the same moon. It's quite beautiful. Of course, it could also be about a crush. I'm not sure; there's not enough to the lyrics.. |
|
| Spoon – Trouble Comes Running Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love love love this song. I'm kind of hoping to understand the "slaves are on the horses, princes walk the ground like they're slaves" thing, as well. I think perhaps it's referring to how people who are dependent on their lovers (slaves) are treated like royalty while the ones providing for all of their happiness (princes) suffer for it and go unappreciated (as a slave's labor would be)? Just a guess. | |
| The Raveonettes – Dead Sound Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite songs, ever. | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Surf Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song. | |
| Be Your Own Pet – Wildcat Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Looove love love this. | |
| Grandaddy – At My Post Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| How does this not have comments?! It's such a flawlessly beautiful song. It always puts me in a cool, calm, thoughtful state. | |
| Vivian Girls – Second Date Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song has such a smooth, mellow sound. I love it. | |
| Sleater-Kinney – Living In Exile Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I actually like this song; it has such a good message. If you think too much of yourself, and keep yourself shut away from those who want in, you'll end up with nothing. | |
| Bedhead – the rest of the day Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is strangely peaceful. | |
| Patrick Wolf – The Libertine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Further, you've misspelled it. | |

Meyer Briggs is full of shit. Just saying, it's crackpot psychology. |
|
| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dudley Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I've always thought this song was about a relationship with a sex addict who wants an open relationship. "Hot-cold season going to sink in my sweat No one isn't ever gonna make it there yet" - They do it all the time (regardless the season, she's sweating; lots of effort put into the sex), but satisfaction is impossible to reach "You can't even cope with it Then it passed me by" - The partner wants to sleep with other people. "Fast slow living is holding me back Wishing that my baby never told me that Can't even cope to make it last Then it passed me by We'll take it over And make it mine" - Here's where he asks for an open relationship. Fast-slow living is where they're at; she's not sure if she's being "old-fashioned" by rejecting the idea or not ("slow" living), and she can't deal with it, so having an open relationship "passes her by", and the partner agrees to stay in a closed relationship. "And you wanted it, wanted it, wanted it again" - But that's not enough for the partner. "My dear you've been used I'm breaking in the news" - He cheats, and she forgives him and agrees to be in an open relationship. "Well, love nearly beat us I'm thinking like you, I'm thinking of you" - If they both loved each other in the same way, it would have torn him apart and caused her to ultimately lose him much farther down the road, so instead, she's sleeping around for his sake (thinking like you), but does it so he doesn't feel guilty/while imagining it's him (thinking of you). "Well, love follows near us Can love really steer us? Oh, can't it be true? Oh, can't it be true?" - She's hoping that he'll want to stay devout to her eventually. "Lost all reason for playing your games Better quit staring 'cause you're looking the same" - She grows tired of it being an open relationship. "Can't even cope to make a change Then it passed me by And we'll take it over And make it mine" - They go back into a closed relationship, making it "hers", but as he can't really do it (cope to make a change), she knows he'll end up cheating. "Use me up, use me up Taper off and I'm had" - She'll stay with him, knowing he's cheating, all for the sake of love, until she either can't stand it anymore or doesn't care. |
|
| Tilly and the Wall – Shake Shake Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song, to me (and I could be terribly wrong, but this is just my interpretation) is about a guy who's in love with a girl who sleeps around (example 1: "And its just motion/Yes everybody knows it", with motion referring to sex)(example 2: All this flesh you're touching/And still it don't mean a thing). He wants to be exclusive, but she doesn't think there's anything wrong with being with other people. | |
| Cut Chemist – What's The Altitude Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I love this song. One correction; the intro says: "I Know What You Can Do, Let Us Play The Part For You" |
|
| Maria Taylor – Time Lapse Lifeline Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That's what I hear, too. | |
| The Replacements – Color Me Impressed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this song is looking down upon parties with a lot of drug/alcohol abuse. That's how I've always taken it. | |
| John Waite – Change Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This is such a classic! | |
| Why? – Rubber Traits Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Everyone has their own interpretations of songs. Just because you don't agree with mine doesn't mean you should call it dumb. Apologizing for calling it dumb is really childish. You just sound like a jackass, writing a huge wall of text to argue something that was written nearly a year ago. | |
| Tegan and Sara – Clever Meals (Version 2) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My version of the song says this: "As you sit out there all sly and sure I wonder "does anyone think as strongly as you do?" There are a few other little differences, too. Is it possible there are three versions? |
|
| Sleater-Kinney – The Drama You've Been Craving Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song. It's surprising no one's commented on it! It makes me think of my family/friends who feel the need to start drama because I don't do everything they want me to do. | |
| The Futureheads – Hounds Of Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I know not many people get this, and it's an old song, but I thought I'd clear this up: "Take your shoes off and throw them in the lake And I will be two steps on the water" This is referencing the practice of throwing your scent off the trail, a useful tactic to fugitives being pursued by bloodhounds (the "Hounds of Love") who are tracking them. Throw your shoes in the lake, and they don't have their primary means to follow you; entering the water will cause them to close track of you at the water, at which point you can exit the water from anywhere and have a much greater chance of escaping them. Essentially, it's about trying to keep love from finding you, even though it's pretty inevitable. |
|
| Florence + the Machine – I'm Not Calling You a Liar Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Why does this song not have more comments? It's so beautiful. To me, the song is about a dysfunctional relationship. The singer is deeply and madly in love, but their partner abuses that (either knowingly or unknowingly). The singer is aware of it, but helpless to get out or stop it. |
|
| Cursive – The Lament of Pretty Baby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I've always thought this song was about a beautiful girl who was raped by her father, and no one cares, or, rather, no one wants to help that is capable of helping. |
|
| No Doubt – Platinum Blonde Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Even though these lyrics are painfully wrong, the song is amazing. | |
| Lady GaGa – Summerboy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This sounds intensely Gwen Stefani-esque. I love it. | |
