What Is Love? Lyrics
In a sitch like this, you gotta think
And I don't think you think about the way he thinks.
And I know you live life for yourself,
But it all comes down to the way you help.
And I know your life is such a hell,
You wake up early and you work until
You have your drinks at 5 'o clock.
The hours blend and your thoughts all haunt
Your hopes, your dream, your everything.
Well, Mama, I hope
And I dream
That you won't leave.
And I have a question!
What is love?
What is love?
Is it giving up?
'Cause that's not how you raised me.
In a sitch like this, you gotta think
And I don't think you think about the way she thinks.
And I know you work hard everyday,
But it all comes down to the way you're paid.
And I know you're oh-so sorry, Dad
And I truly believe that you're a better man.
Then to share one kiss then give away,
All the love you come home everyday to
Your hopes, your dreams, your everything.
Well, Daddy, I hope
And I dream
That she won't leave.
And I have a question!
What is love? (What is love?)
What is love? (What is love?)
Is it giving up?
'Cause that's not how you raised me.
And what is love? (What is love?)
What is love? (What is love?)
See, I don't know anymore.
I used to look
Up
To
That
Love.

This is definitely about divorce, referring to his parents, and his mom leaving his dad. The lyrics are actually very straightforward.
In the first verse, he says: "And I don't think you think about the way he thinks. And I know you live life for yourself," This is very powerful because he's saying to his mom, you don't see things through his eyes you only think about yourself. And then he says "And I know your life is such a hell", he knows she's unhappy with her life and every day she hates it but he still wants her to stay, because she's his mom, and him and his dad need her.
When he asks what is love, and says "Is it giving up? 'Cause that's not how you raised me" he's calling out his mom, because she's giving up on her marriage, even though she raised him to never give up (I'm assuming)
Like I said, These lyrics are really straight forward. He's talking about his parent's divorce, and he's wondering what exactly love is because he thought they were in love and he used to look up to that and dream of that, but now he sees it as one big lie, and he doesn't know what to think.
I know this was long but every lyric is so easy to analyze to put the pieces together. i love this song & Nevershoutnever!
hes talking about his parents divorce after being married like 20 years, its such a sad song.
christofer drew ingle = <3
This reminds me of my parents.. but it was my dad who left, not my mom.. but they had been together for 17 years, and i never thought they would divorce. but they did,
very sad, but quite amazing<3
this song is so sad, chris is so amazing.
This is really sad. That doesn't mean it's not great though. I love this song (and all his other ones too!). And him. <3
I super duper love this song! Heh, he's such an amazing artist. It's super sad as I can relate a tad bit, but it's sweet. Hah
sad but SEVERLY INTENSE! i love this song cause its fuken LIFE! most ppl go threw this and he just had the best way to put in words and into an INCREDDIBLE song.
This song sounds kind of upbeat, but it's also very sad; it gets me dancing and near tears when I hear it. Such a beautiful song, with just the right dose of sadness and honesty to make it believable and easy to empathize with. It drains me, to an extent; it wears down all those floodgates on my heart and I really feel connected to it. I'm sure it has that effect on a lot of people (especially in this generation of high divorce rates). It's brilliant.
i love how his songs are all pretty straightforward in terms of lyrics, but that makes them honest and beautiful. usually i like the more complicated lyrics (yup, the emo ones xP) and most "artists" with simple lyrics sound fake to me, and cliche, and you hear the same thing with every crappy artist, and they piss me off. Christofer is pretty much the only artist i can think of who writes simple lyrics that i can appreciate. I respect him and love his music soooooooo much. its like when he writes simple lyrics, THOSE are the lyrics that all the other cliche radio artists are trying to copy. everyone wants their words to mean something but christofer is the only one i've heard whos actually made that happen. <3
