On both U2 site and in the album lyrics booklet it is "I and I in the sky." In Philosophy "I" is sometime used to mean the essences of what make a person an individual. George Herbert Mead use "I" and "Me" to explain social behavior. "I" is one's true self while "Me" is the way one acts in different roles. For example one does not act lay back with there boss as they would with there friends. The "I" however is always present. I think that "I and I" means that the two people are being brought together by love and know each others true self intimately. I love this song too. |

Yeah I was reading "U2 by U2" and Bono said that, "I don't remember writing that song which is sad because it is a song about sex." I do however think that the song is not just about the act but how sex can be spiritual and love can bring one out of despair. Like many of U2 song there can be a double meaning that is referring to God's love also. One of my favorite songs of theirs. :) |

I think that this song is about two girls that "friends" but back-stab each other with gossip and meddling in each others lives. An ode to mean girls. The girl with one eye likely said or did something mean to the one that is the voice from the song. The protagonist got revenge because the other girl could not keep her fingers out of her pie which I think means that she did not stay our her friend's personal business. At lest that was my first impression of the song when I first watched her play it live on Lettermen. |

I think that this song is about a person that has cheated on their spouse but the person has ended the ties with the person they where cheating with and is now asking for forgiveness from their spouse. The woman is able to see that something is unquiet about her in light of the new life that is in her. I think the song is about being having dignity dispute how one is treated and how every woman is some what of a mermaid deep down. |

I think that this song is about woman in general and if the things the man do for woman really do make them feel loved. There are part about how man care for woman and mistreat them. I think that the sun and rain part is about how it can seem that things are going well in the relationship from where the guy stand but the girl is hurting inside. "Love's a bully pushing and shoving/in the belly of a woman" is about how it is a miracle that though women life can come in to the world. Sadly dispute this miracle the rhythm or lust of the world that degrades woman. But dispute all the pain with the man-woman relationship we should stick to together and try to learn to love each other more. |

I looked on u2 web site and it say that the name of the song comes an art exhibit that showed art made by the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and I think this song is about the survivors.
I think that this song is about some one inviting another person to love again even after there world has been blown apart and all seem hopeless. The speaker in the song is has just gone though what seems like the end of the world with a loved one that may be losing his or her grip on reality or dieing. The speaker in the is trying to get them to at lest try to live one more night but he or she is fading fast. |

This song is so odd. When I hear the first line "A what a day/Boy next door passed away/Oh, it makes me wanna say,'hey I don’t wanna waste another day,'" I thought the song would be about how live is short and how we need to love the people around us while they are still with us. I find it creepy the rest of the song is about sex. Not that I think sex is meaningless or a way to love some one but the song seem to be more about lust and repopulating then love.
I love Utada music but this is not one of her better songs. |

I agree with what you said :) This is one of my all time favorite U2 songs (so hard to just pick one.) And it was funny I read in "U2 by U2," that "Vertigo" in the song is a pun because in Germany there is a club that is really called "Vertigo." And I wonder if the last part of the song is not only about God but how a loved one can lead a person closer to God dispute feeling vertigo. That would see to mach up with the rest of the album that seems to deal a lot with the four love (romantic love, family love, friendship love and God like love) Is it just me or does Bono seem to be a C.S. Lewis fan? :) |

Craiqwq, I do not think that Bono is trying to say that woman that are not skinny are not pretty. But that it is dumb that people act like only when that are skinny are attractive and that young girls need to hurt them self by not eating write to be thinner. It is so sad how much people in meadia get worked up over star gaining 2 pounds and then are dumbfounded by how many young girls have eating disorders. Why don't thay lay off the stars gaining pounds and try to see the beauty in woman of all sizes. It gets so bad some times that I feel like Ana in "Real Woman Have Curves"- "I want to lose weight, but some times I just feel like not losing the weight to spite them." |

This could be way off but I think that this song is about a rich girl that gets in a bar fight with a poor guy that was making fun of her for having money. He is saying stuff like that she is, "stuck up," "unloved," and that "unzipped she don't exit" which I think means that she has made her self out of the things she has and with out them she would fall apart. The girl starts to fight with the guy to the points that they are both puching each other but she does not fall when he hits her "I took them standing up" and she tells him to put up more of a fight. Anyway it seems to have a "bring it" feel like a fight is going down in one way or another. |
