i think this song is about a girl who doesn't love him and who's using him, but he doesn't want to see that because he's infatuated with her... the people around him are telling him what they see but he doesn't want to listen to them... i think this song is also a commentary about the superficial things people think they "love" about a person, with the line, "If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says When she says she loves me" ... that doesn't really sound like the greatest proof of someone loving another person, does it? |

My take on this song is that the girl, who is getting married, is in love with another guy who isn't her fiance, but he doesn't feel the same. In the lines, "Would you be depressed? If I attend that wedding, but only as a guest." He's asking her, are you going to be upset that it isn't me you're marrying? The other line, "Such an unfaithful bride draped in a dress, spun with threads of my regret." The guy obviously regrets what he has done with the girl because she's not only cheated on her soon-to-be husband but he's made her regret that she's getting married. And the last line to prove my point, "Make eye contact so you know I care, you know I care; but only as a guest." He cares for her, but only as a friend. He doesn't see her the way that she sees him. So in conclusion, he's saying that all he can ever be to her is a guest at her wedding, never the groom. |
