Where Does the Good Go

This song definitely seems to come from a person who is expressing an internal dialogue. Whether a real or imagined relationship, a sea of mixed emotions is experienced by this person whose heart is broken for some reason or another (not necessarily with another person). For anyone who has been devastated by heartbreak can definitely relate in their own unique way. Therefore, whatever Tegan & Sara originally intended is irrelevant, their gift of song writing articulates a more universal perspective and not pure narrative.

To me the song can have three general meanings: 1) Self defeat over a lost ambition or dream 2) The end of a relationship- real or desired (and subsequently rejected) 3) The dying of a great love, and the bereaved one's grief expressed

It could be asking a rhetorical question of "Where does the good of a relationship go?" or "where does the good of me go with what is left over after a heart break?" Expressing the bereaved one's grief upon the dying lover, and raging futilely against the inevitable- asking the universe where has all the good gone and unable to let their lover pass on ("how do you know when to let go")

A challenge to the self to pick up the pieces. It's a challenge to an ex-lover or to the one rejecting a potential relationship Possibly even a cry to a lover passing on to reaffirm their love; with death causing the broken heart.

general disillusionment with how other's perceive you and happy when the table's turn, knowing deep down inside that's not a charitable sentiment rejected lover publicly exposed and at first angered by the other's happiness, now crowing jubilantly over their new misfortune... a wry acknowledgment that the good in the self isn't really there with the joy expressed over the other's downfall Anger at other lover's in the streets expressing love when their love has passed on, and delighting when other's relationships break apart to share in the grief... once again knowing deep down inside that's not a charitable sentiment

Love. It reminded me of Willow and Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer the TV Show so that's all the thoughts I can make. It's like your partner it comes in a box that says: ''Fragile! Handle with care!"

This song was seriously the theme song of my break up a few years ago... It's awful when the other person seems so happy and got over you so easily while your left thinking, "how the f did this even happen?!"

This song is pretty obviously a breakup song... but I really think whats important about it is that it is reflecting on a relationship, all of which have both good and bad parts, and wondering literally where all the good things go when its over. After a breakup, especially if 2 people really loved each other, they tend to HATE each other and feel really bitter. where does the good go? how can you love someone and then after you break up can there be so much ugliness? More importantly, i think the song is about that moment when your partner fully resolves that its over, especially when you haven't.

in my experience, theres this moment when you break up with someone you love and have been dating for years, and after all the fights you've had you never actually expect the other person to finally decide that it's over. You just want to make up like you do every other time you fight. But something has changed in their heart- the love has left and no matter how much you beg them to to forgive you or get over it like every time... something has changed and you have to accept that for them, it's over.

Really, I didn't even find out this song was on Grey ANATOMY until the other day. Tegan & Sara are awesome, and I adore this song.

my favorite part is actually right after that part you guys liked... "it's love that leaves and breaks the seal of always thinking you would be happy and healthy, strong and calm" and grey's anatomy is an AMAZING show... its about a breakup and the world not being perfect anymore
