Born Losers Lyrics
Well there ain't nothing to this but your daughter
And the life you would not give or break your plans
Traipsed across the continent a squatter
For your lies at night to sleep between my hands
When the lights come on this whole place gets ugly
But when they're out strangers fall in love
She could never say that flat-out she don't want me
'Cause I could never say that halfway ain't enough
New Order's on the turntable we're dancing
Cause what else do you do when you don't talk?
Crucified they crawl into your mansion
Ya, that's why I learned to crawl before I walked
We're back where we belong
Straight back where we belong
No days for nights, no cocaine cons
Just back where we belong
Take me out back to your piranhas
And beat me until I can't even stand
Your whole life a plane without no landing gear
So if this is it then come on let me land
That trailer trash pedigree is calling
It rats you out when you're down on all fours
Me I like to cast my death on yesterday
Cause what doesn't kill us now just makes us bitter whores
We're back where we belong
Straight back where we belong
No days for nights, no cocaine cons
Just back where we belong
Go put it in the ground
Go bury it some place it can't be found
Go put it in the ground
Well there ain't nothing to this but your daughter
And the life you would not give her break your plans
Traipsed across the continent a squatter
For your lies at night to sleep between my hands
And the life you would not give or break your plans
Traipsed across the continent a squatter
For your lies at night to sleep between my hands
But when they're out strangers fall in love
She could never say that flat-out she don't want me
'Cause I could never say that halfway ain't enough

the miscarriage story is legit. his wife had a miscarriage right near the expectancy day. and since matt is so mental, that must have wrecked him. the miscarriage is one of the main reasons the marriage didn't last, and that he eventually ODed. luckily, he survived. This song is definitely a solid FUCK YOU to his ex-wife, but most of it is about how the miscarriage wrecked their marriage. review lines like "there ain't nothin to this but your daughter", "Your whole life, a plane without no landing gear So if this is it, then come on let me land", and "Go put it in the ground Go bury it somewhere it can't be found Go put it in the ground" and think about the heavy symbolism there in regards to his unborn child. also, the title "born losers" is a dead give away. bottom line though, MG is pure brilliance
I think the lyric is "no dance floor nights".
Having ZERO concept it reflects a real past situation, I totally put together a different concept of the relationship between the lines. I thought a man found himself in a dive bar with a younger woman with daddy issues who wouldn't refuse him. "She could never say that flat-out she don't want me". He thought he was doing HER a favour despite himself, because she was perhaps figuratively a runaway and there was drugs involved. And he had to help put her back where she belonged as he realized this was somebody's daughter, whatever her true age. But he felt a bit like a whore and diminished. And there was some kind of sea change for the man through the experience of dealing with her shit, but ultimately he felt like she had major daddy issues because her father made other plans than being a dad and abandoned her so she was adrift in life. "And the life you would not give or break your plans" was that the young woman was like her father, "a squatter". The end. I am so sorry to butcher the meaning with my BS interpretation lol. Also "For your lies at night to sleep between my hands" representing the lack of trust with a lover. Also "Go put it in the ground" reminds me of burying the yoyo in the Kate Bush song Cloudbusting. I mean why not bury it.
This is such an amazing song. I am not sure what it means though. I love all of Matt Good but he does stump me sometimes. My favourite lines are :
"Your whole life, a plane without no landing gear So if this is it, then come on let me land"
Love it, pure genious.
Awesome song by Matt, definately one of his best in my opinion.
Just wish I knew what the line "For your lies at night to sleep between my hands." means.
Anybody got any interpretations or ideas?
I think it's like he's holding himself. He's essentially holding his dick, because he's scared and his manhood feels threatened. I mean this metaphorically of course.

i think that "for your lies at night to sleep between my hands," means that it was somebody who lied to him, just so she could sleep with him, or at least next to him.
yeaaah free itunes download of the week!!
reminds me of MGB back with strange days when he starts the chours it reminds me of strange days, this is prolly one of the only artists that are in the genre that can say
'what dont kill us make us better whores'
i mean that right there is a clasic line, im deff gonna pick up the new CD... deff a good artist to listen to anytime of the day. and anyplace.
The first time I heard this song, the first few lines reminded me of 'Jenni's song' by MGB.
Just a though.. otherwise I dunno what it could be about.
Well, from reading Matt's mini life story on his website and seeing the pictures he drew in the hospital after a pseudo-purposeful overdose of pills....you can match the lyrics up easily. I think a lot of it is extremely purposeful. The most important part, I'd say, is the first three lines or so. It really gives an idea of what the song is about.
