The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Did you not grant quarter to the daemon, giving treatment to its wounds?
And would you not consider it unnatural to be born outside the womb?
We eagerly await your response and your best defense.
La curandera is the young girl
In a linen dress of white.
She dances on black sand in the night
In her linen dress of white.
Let us vote to dunk the witch in the river Styx and photograph the lye.
So in the shadow of Cerebus her spirit will reside.
La curandera is the young girl
In a linen dress of white.
She dances on black sand in the night
In her linen dress of white.
BIRD IN THE FIRE, MOUTHFUL OF SAND
KING OF THE BRIAR, MOUTHFUL OF SAND
THE SCALE AND FEATHER, THE LOCK AND KEY
THE LORD OF WEATHER, THE BEAST AT PEACE
And would you not consider it unnatural to be born outside the womb?
We eagerly await your response and your best defense.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
One of my most favourite songs on Blast Tyrant. I'll just write this for anyone who's not read the booklet, these lyrics are copied and slightly altered from a witch trial, and show that she was sentenced, and got her revenge. Amazing song.
How'd she get her revenge if she were dead? Interesting song, but I just don't get that. (Don't fret; I don't get lots of things...blonde, you know:)
a "la curandera" is a female shaman or healer. this song is about (like andyburton said) a witch trial - thus the line "We eagerly await your response and your best defense."
they execute the witch, but i dont think there is any revenge taken.
No revenge huh? I took the last few lyrics and the change in the tempo to be representative of her revenge. "Mouthful of sand" seems to be a curse to get those who prosecute her to shut the heck up. "Bird in the fire" adds some vivid imagery, like setting one on fire and watching the flap around. The Briar reminds me of that children's book about the Briar patch and the tar baby. Just my 2 cents...
this son is great and goes great with toast
