I heard in an interview with Chris Martin that he was trying to get to a girl who was seeing someone else ("but you pay me no attention..."). He was always playing the best friend and persevered through it ("I'll be there by your side, just you try and stop me."), finally telling her he'd even change to be more like the other guy, but she should be careful because "I'd change for good." He asks if the words he says make her shiver, and he knows that while he'd wait forever, he only has one chance before she commits too fully to the wrong guy.
Moral of the story, Chris Martin is the perfect man hahaha. But seriously, don't reject love from places you don't expect it. You deserve the guy who will play the best friend while he waits for you and makes you shiver with his words. I chose my Chris, and two years later, we're about to get married ;)

I've done exactly this. I never thought I would fall for a "sorority girl", because of the connotations behind the "label". How wrong I was grouping all women in sororities together. Extremely long story short, I began falling for this girl at the same exact time I rejected her altruism and connection to me. We had a connection I will never forget, and I made two bonehead mistakes that ultimately ended this connection. It was extremely painful and sent me into a terrible depression, another thing I...

Seriously, it can be painful rejecting love you don't expect. I learned the hard way. Always keep an open mind.
@coldplaywisdom I doubt you would say it is the perfect man if it was a nerdy, awkward, ugly guy saying the exact same lines. Then it would be just creepy, which, btw, it is. This lyrics show such an absurd lack of self love and steem that only by being some handsome rich guy like Chris could somewhat get away with it.

@coldplaywisdom I want to say you're wrong but everything is a factor. It's hard to play outside of your league. Sadly, that only works in 80's movies and quirky romance comedies of today. In order to seriously stand out against someone so beautiful is to be that much more beautiful in other ways. That comes across in today's society as being rich, successful, handsome, famous, genius, etc. Something about you has to stand out so much higher than the rest of the averages. I feel for you. I am pretty average myself and hurt the way you hurt. I am...

Thank you for being awesome. I love people's interpretations, but the artist's own meaning is always a rare treat.

@coldplaywisdom Well I'm one of those best friends, hope they listen to your advice.
