I just got this album a few days ago and listening to the songs, I wasn't really picking up what was going on, but reading the lyrics alone was enough to have me tearing up.
Anyway, just gonna state the obvious for the purposes of this site: I am pretty sure that this song is about a couple who recently got married and had so many plans for happiness, but the man is injured or ill or something. So, they're in the hospital and they're hoping with all the hope they have that everything is going to be OK. Well, the man says that even if things don't go OK, to always remember him and that he will love the girl forever and always (hence the title of the song).
This is so touching and sad. I was at a Parachute concert two days ago and they played this and... it was so different from the rest of the songs they performed which had a little more excitement. I love them, though... I am very close to Kit's family and apparently Johnny's as well, as I just recently learned that his sister babysat me many years ago and apparently Johnny "[hadn't] seen me since [I] was this big!" (insert hand indications that I was an infant).
Just a few things. First of all they are not originally married. Second, he has most likely gotten into a car accident. Third, they both know the outcome but they talk of all their dreams they had. It something that just happens a lot in this sittuation. They end up getting married a in his last minutes and as he is dying, he tells her how much he loves her and he hopes she never forgets this.
