This song is so catchy and upbeat, all right, that it is easy to not realize it was written about a drug dealer. Take another good look at the lyrics...to hand me a "rainbow"... tripping down the streets of the city...wings to fly above the clouds. Like Along Comes Mary, and so many songs of the time, the the lyric has a hidden meaning, covered by the upbeat tune and beautiful harmonies. It had to be hidden to get away with it then, unlike today.
@jadesfire001 I think you're right about the drug reference. 'Tripping (trippin') down the streets of the city.' And 'smiling at everybody she sees' ....so obviously high! What a great song with the harmonies n' all.
