To me, the song is about seeing things, and about the way in which you want to see them. Everyone has a different perception of something. Whilst some consider a shark to be vulgar or intimidating - they dare to percieve them differently. Also, "to see his memory from different angles" could easily be interpreted as a person reassessing their own memories, and seeing something in a different light.
@mildewmatt I see your post is 10 years old, but it just struck me last week as I was walking home and listening to this song: to me it speaks of replaying painful memories, analysing what you could have done differently, and letting your mind wander down the path of that alternate reality. There's a bit of projection going on there, but that's the beauty of a good song, isn't it?
