I love that line in the song as it makes me believe that i really don't need to follow in anyone's footsteps to succeed, but to follow my own heart. One of the most inspirational songs ever. Thank you Whitney for moving us with this song. I love it.

This song could be interpreted by some as a person who can't find love and so, sadly, chooses to turn to just themselves. On the contrary, this song is all about loving yourself because that's the most important thing to do.

@Sunnyhill I was just thinking about this -- how the real message of this song is about self love but so many ppl think it's a sort of "save the children's athem"...which it can be too because we need self love to truly ever "save the children". It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity.
Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.
I think as humans evolve, grow and assess their life and life experiences they most likely come to this realization. This song is real and she told it like it was/is.
