@[airforbes1:47211] Yes that plow / plough line is a bit strange. Could be as in the phrase 'to plough ahead' |

@[Xacto:46412] That would fit in well! Bit random to bring in a ship on the horizon otherwise. Really interesting to think about the meaning of it all. :) |

Jimmie F. Rodgers – Someplace Green Lyrics

One of the lines is ‘The good Lord’s been around a while, Eternity at least’. I always thought it was ‘…. Turned his tea and leased’, which doesn’t make sense, but I searched on the net and other people thought the same thing! |

I just worked out it\'s about someone whose childhood sweetheart marries someone else. Had always thought it was from the point of view of a father talking about his daughter. Glad I cleared that up. :) |

Blur – Parklife Lyrics

I took it to be about someone sitting in a park and watching other people and speculating on their [and the singer\'s] mundane lives. Reminds me a bit of Lazy Sunday with the accent. |

@[zx11:41275] Nice, this bit sums it up for me - "........There isn\'t much here other than a vague thought of sailing away to a new world, whether that world is physically a new place and/or just a new mental outlook." |

@[NuSoardGraphit:39432] This seems like a great interpretation! I think it fits better for a spirit to be ‘guiding’ rather than a living person. Great lyrics - inspiring and comforting concepts |

@[Crimson_heartfoil:38481] Yes I don't know why beautiful / powerful songs like this should make us sad but it happens. I was trying to learn it and started crying during my guitar lesson once. Wahh. Maybe a sense of loss ....
Great song :) |

Paul Jones – I've Been a Bad, Bad Boy Lyrics
| 3 years ago
|
I have loved this song since it came out but thought I would try to learn to play it on guitar recently and now love it even more!
I guess the lyrics are straightforward..... I find it very moving as it depicts a strong love between a couple. 'I'll take you where the sun and moon are always shining.' But on the other hand there is "....... I'm not the man you think I am, I give you warning - you'll wake up and find me gone some sunny morning'." |

John Lennon – #9 Dream Lyrics

@[emilk:33385] '.......... lingering memory, dream or feeling. Intangible, but present.' Those feelings are interesting. It's like in Bruce Springstein's 'Secret Garden' - "You've gone a million miles
How far'd you get
To that place where You can't remember
And you can't forget" |

John Lennon – Crippled Inside Lyrics

I don't know if John ever shed any light on the meaning of the song but I had always thought it was a reflection of his own life as well as others who hide and / or don't deal with their problems. |

Great point for everyone who argue about song meanings! ..................................
"That's the magic of great songwriting. Conveying one's own feelings into a piece of work that people can relate to on a personal level-which has nothing at all to do with the writer's initial intent or direction in their own mind(s) of what the song's meaning is-is what good songwriting is all about. Lennon is a master of this." |

John Lennon – (Just Like) Starting Over Lyrics
| 4 years ago

I loved this when it came out as for me it, Woman and Beautiful Boy were his best songs since the Imagine LP. Now it is ironic and so sad. I would have thought it was about Yoko but it coincided with him restarting his career. Spookily now it is just playing on my JL playlist |

John Lennon – I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier Lyrics
| 4 years ago
|
Basically an anti war song IMHO with a few other things thrown in that John didn't want to be, some of it not making great sense as he has just thrown in words that rhyme with die. I quite like it. I was just thinking there are a few of his songs that list things in a similar fashion - God, Oh Yoko, Give Peace A Chance ..... |

Thin Lizzy – Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) Lyrics

Looking at the lyrics, I think now it was done more as a bit of fun rather than being 'sincere'. Still great though. The guitar themes sound like they are trad tunes as well but I don't know what, apart from Danny Boy. |

@[Twinb1983:23265] Nice description! Except the Shenandoah is in America [the Shannon is in Ireland]. Many Irish people migrated to the region of the Shenandoah which may explain the reference. |
