I've read over wiki's page that

Morten Harket holds the European record for the longest note held in a Top 40 pop song. During the song "Summer Moved On" Harket sustains a note for 20.2 seconds (=32 measures).

so, I waited for it and count until when he would stop.

A-Ha are the most underrated band in the world, and this song is the best of the decade. Period.

I consider 'MInor earth major sky ' their most beautiful album. this song is not an axception. 'Season can't last..(so friendship, love...life...' and the melanchony that is get is the theme of full album

I believe this song is about people who enter our lives unexpectedly, and the experiences we have, brief but intense moments…. But we can’t stay in those moments. Life goes on, time doesn’t stop, though sometimes we wish it would, it just keeps moving forward and all we are left with is the memories.

Also, it causes us to reflect. Throughout life, friendships evolve. People move away, dynamics change. The one constant in our lives is never-ending change.

“Stay, just like today, Don’t walk away and leave me another day… A day just like today No one else around…”

I think this stanza is about the memories we are left with… that stay with us, haunt us all our lives. We relive those brief fiery intense moments. Especially when we are alone with our thoughts. No one else around. And we will always have those, no one can take that away from us. But it’s a two edged sword, because the bliss of those bittersweet moments, those ever so sweet interludes, must eventually end, and we have to wake up and face the reality of the real world, the here and now, and then we lose them all over again.

I think late is actually left, as in left to ask. Being from Alaska, where I’ve lived with the midnight sun and long summer days, I would also add to the above comments that when winter hits, it’s not just the cold alone but also the darkness… and the sun never rises to the top of the sky. It’s more difficult in winter to be alone. Suddenly if you only have a few people around, it’s quite depressing. So please don’t go away, stay it’s harder to meet people when the cold traps you inside. Notice when Morten holds his hand up mid-day to block the sun it’s at most 23 degrees from the top of the sky. This is a song about Norway underneath.

I think it's about being caught up in the bad htings in life. The care-free days of the summer (or being young) are over and now it's time to get back to buisness and reality.

I think it's about people coming and leaving our life. After all good times are through, they leave, although we want them to stay with us...

Maybe it's about moving on, while others stay where they are. Stay or go, Summer keeps movin' on, with nobody else around.
