Lonestar Lyrics
Lonestar where are you out tonight?
This feeling I'm trying to fight
It's dark and I think that I would give anything
For you to shine down on me
How far you are I just don't know
The distance I'm willing to go
I pick up a stone that I cast to the sky
Hoping for some kind of sign
This feeling I'm trying to fight
It's dark and I think that I would give anything
For you to shine down on me
The distance I'm willing to go
I pick up a stone that I cast to the sky
Hoping for some kind of sign

This is a great song for anyone who's far away from the one they love and who's contemplating whether they should stay together or not because the distance is hard to deal with.
You guys are all crazy. If you actually knew where Norah Jones was from (Grapevine, TX) then you would know that this song is about her home state. Not some boy. If you wanted a song about a boy from Norah, then you should listen to "Turn Me On". Come on people. It's not always about some "hidden meaning". This one was easy.
i really dont think its about texas, emopunker. why would norah be "looking" for texas? or how does a state shine down on someone? there IS a hidden meaning (like in most songs) and i think the lonestar represents a special person in her life (yea, not necessarily a boy as emopunker said) that she misses. she doesnt know the distance she would go to be with him/her and i guess like anny04 said, shes looking for a sign. yea. the main idea is a loss of some kind and how she misses it
I love Norah Jones' smokey, yet sweet voice. Its so comforting... or whatever. Its the perfect song on one of those days or nights, when you are bored, but are too lazy to do something about it... or when you gf/bf went away for a while... it describes it perfectly.
This is a beautiful song. i love it!! i got the album about a week ago and i've listened to it about a thousand times. Everything about it is great. I don't try to fight the feeling tha comes over me when I pay this song. (excuse the play on words).
it's a bout a girl who doesn't know how to deal with the problem that she's having..where she likes this guy but it's something that she's not sure of..she wants a sign..somehing that can help her through her predicament
I agree with anndy, or at least thats what it means to me. the girl wants "some kind of sign". and for me, i wish i could get just that.
This song is in fact about Texas. When she started recording her first albumn she moved to New York. She has never moved back but you can gather from this song and the country feel of her second albumn that she misses the Lonestar state a great deal. It's about her asking for a sign of whether to stay in New York or move back to Texas.
This song is definitly about texas, but it is interpretable. It's definitly not about a boy, but it could be about a boy she misses in a place. The fact that she is refering to 'lonestar'-texas, as something in the nightsky, means that there is some meaning beyond just texas. I agree with you all, she misses texas, but its not dark in new york city compared to anywhere in texas, so there is clearly something else going on. Its such a short song that A) we cant guess what she means and B) it can mean whatever we want and be correct. for me, it reminds me of a long distance relationship i had with someone in dallas when i was living in philadelphia. When you analyze this song, keep in mind that texas means ALOT to people that are from there, and im sorry bout my spelling
When I first listened to this song, (a long time ago- I was single at the time), and I always referred to the "lonestar" as my other half who hasn't met me yet. And I always felt like the lyrics were about how two people are lonely and feel the same on the exact same time and are wondering where their other half is and they are lost in despair with this thought that they would give anything for the other person to find them (shine down on me). She is saying she doesn't care about the distance because she's that WILLING to make it work out and how she is WISHES/HOPES for a friggin sign to calm her impatience and loneliness. Because it sucks when you're in a rut about when you're going to meet someone already... especially if it's been a while since you've dated.
I think this song can be interpreted many ways. But that was how I always looked at this song .... and there was a point where I did have a crush and connected this song to them. Haha. I love music. It's so universal and that's what makes music BEAUTIFUL.
