Language Of The Heart Lyrics

We made our warm bed out of blankets in the meadow way up high
You took off your dress in the moonlight to sleep beneath the sky
Your touch was a warm summer ocean
Your kiss made the whole mountain fly
And you looked deep with in me and smiled
At the tears in my eyes

You can say that you always were honest
And your words were clear from the start
But it's more than just words that got spoken
There was language of the heart

I won't keep on calling your number if you never have the time
I don't want to claim you or blame you, but you're always on my mind
You had no idea I would love you
It comes as a total surprise
And you shake your head slowly and smile
At the tears in my eyes

You can say that you always were honest
And your words were clear from the start
But it's more than just words that got spoken
There was language of the heart

Your eyes like an ocean of clear sunlit green
My eyes with the salt water
Wash me clean again

And just imagine you whispered a secret that could take away my blues
And you let me believe it to please me, though it just wasn't true
You just meant to share with me pleasure
And you're gifted at what you do
But you're speaking an unspoken language
I thought that you knew
It's one that we all learn by heart
And our hearts think its true

You can say that you always were honest
And your words were clear from the start
But it's more than just words that got spoken
There was language of the heart

This is one of my favorite DW songs (huge fan since 1992, been to 15 or so shows in 6 cities), and it's so musically beautiful. It sounds like a love song, but it is far from a happy one. I think it's quite simple--there was a romantic tryst and he fell in love, but she didn't. And she relies upon the knowledge that she didn't explicitly promise him anything (she was "honest" and "clear from the start"). But her actions made him feel like she loved him. He likens it to whispering a secret (ie.: "I love you") and letting him "believe it, to please [him], though it just wasn't true". She's also "gifted" at what she does, so he thinks she's done this before . . . letting a guy fall in love with her, making him feel loved, when she really doesn't. But again, she relies on the fact that she never promised him anything. It's actually kind of harsh . . . and sad . . . and beautiful. And very much like something that took me probably 10 years to get over myself!

I can't believe NO ONE has commented this song! This song has some absolutely amazing lyrics, and I love them. I'm an unsure on whether its about how the woman loves him back and he's happy about it, or maybe she doesn't at all and that's why there are tears in his eyes. Either way it makes me sad. And it's a great song.
