No they aren't. Black metal is about religion.
The base of black metal belongs to bands like venom, celtic forst, etc. The 90's Black Metal as we know it today was formed in northern europe countries like norway and sweden by bands like immortal, mayhem, dimmu borgir, dark funeral, emperor, etc. Of course with the black metal as it is today, bands like venom can be described as Black/Thrash/Speed metal.. And of course morbid angel is death metal, 100% death metal.. Thrash Metal was formed before black metal, when a wave of anti-glam rock bands tried to play true metal again, like Slayer, Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth and others

Morbid Angel is Deathmetal. "Black metal is about religion", so it all comes down to what the lyrics are about? I belive most popartists have made some sort of religious song, are they black metal all of a sudden? System of a down, are they Black metal? Please.
Morbid Angel are pure Florida Death metal and all there songs arnt about religion alot of there songs on Covenant arnt about religion.But Morbid Angel are no where close to being Black metal they dont have to use gimmicks like wearing makeup like Immortal,Cradle of Filth, and Behemoth. Thoughs bands are good but i dont see whats scary about grown men in makeup. They look like a satanic version of Poision.

morbid angel is death metal. while it is true that one of th main themes in black metal is its lyrical content of anti-christinity and self suffience, it takes a lot more to actually be put under the type of metal that is black.
i suggest some of you actually learn about what your saying before you go saying it. many "rawists" would kill you if they heard someone say morbid angel was black metal. epecially those of euronymous' doctrine.

Morbid Angel are 100% death metal, one of the pioneers of the genre. I can see the lyrics being mistaken for black metal, but I have to wonder if you(Visceral Bleeding) have even heard the song?
Trey Azagthoth is a guitar god, he sounds alot like James Murphy at times, his solo's in this song kick ass. But Morbid Angel went downhill after Vincent left.

I agree Cradle of Filth is in no way black metal, just a whiney gimmik. And personally I think corpse paint looks sweet, and it origionated in Norway so what can you expect, they're going to come up with some crazy shit
