I'll go with the worst idea
If everyone takes the toll
Keep following anyone
Who digs a deeper hole
Sing me a tune
Wasn't this bond built forever?
The anchor that strong
My money, it changes how we used to value most
So over the short ascent that comes at any cost
Sing me a tune
Wasn't this bond built forever?
The anchor that strong
Didn't we build this together?
The worst just go wrong
The worst just go wrong
On and on
How do you win so many enemies?
I'm open to any good news
What if the world falls in?
On the only option we knew
Sing me a tune
Wasn't this bond built forever?
The anchor that strong
Didn't we build this together?
The worst just go wrong
I'll go with the worst idea
If everyone takes the toll
My money, it changes how we used to value most
So over the short ascent that comes at any cost
Sing me a tune
Wasn't this bond built forever?
The anchor that strong
The anchor that strong
I'll go with the worst idea
If everyone takes the toll
(way too long)
I'll go with the worst idea
If everyone takes the toll

Alright so I saw these guys in Providence RI a few weeks ago, and before they started this song Matt Pryor was basically trashing Boston, and then went on to say that this song was about moving to Boston. I dont know if it is or not, but to me this song is about doing something that you really really don't want to do, and it'll fuck things up in your life, but deep down you know it'll be better in the long run...Another thing, this song as well as the entire new album are a lot different than the GUK older stuff, but it's just the band adapting and changing, so everyone stop saying it sucks. It doesn't. On a Wire isn't Four Minute Mile, but it's got its advantages over the older stuff, as well as its disadvantages. Look at The Anniversary, Your Majesty didn't sound anything like Designing a Nervous Breakdown, but it was a good different sound. That's exactly what's happened with On a Wire so everyone lighten up. I'm off my soapbox.

I agree with super emo boy. the get up kids rock, no matter how much they change, it's a different sound, and even if i didn't like it as soon as i bought it, i love it now. it sort of grows on you.

rock. The new CD is great, so is Your Majesty. Different sounds don't mean anything about anything, it's just different. Appreciate it for what it is you skanks. Get Up Kids are awesome

trashing of boston? oooo not a good move on his part.... haha. i'm seeing them in a week in worcester. it should kickass, i'm hoping. i wouldn't think that he'd trash boston, i think i just thought (or wanted to think) they liked it here. hm ~amy*

those lyrics aren't all correct. "so over the short ascent that comes at any cost" (not "so over the shorter scent") "on the only option we knew" (not "i'm the only").

    good song, good album.

the new CD grew on me real fast, and now I can't get enough. the only difference I really feel is that its not as depressing, not that the old songs were bad, its just that they had more emotion....these songs seem to be about a different kind of breakup, a differene kind of love. not as sad, but equally serious.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
