Get Up Lyrics
And when the body finally starts to let go
let it all go at once
not piece by piece.
but like a whole bucket of stars
dumped into the universe.
Whoooh! Watch it go!
Good-bye small hands, good-bye small heart
good-bye small head
My soul is climbing tree trunks
and swinging from every branch
They're calling on me,
they're calling one me...
Do you think I'm an animal?
Am I not?
Do you like fur
Do you wanna come over
Are we captive only for a short time
Is there splendor, I'm not ashamed
Desire shoots through me
like birds singing
(The way you move no ocean's waves were ever as fluid)
They're calling on me,
they're calling one me...
I hit the mark!
I target moon, I target sky, I target sun.
Fall down on the world before it falls on you.
Like beggars, like Stars,
like whores, us all
Like beggars, like dogs
Like Stars, us all
Shoot straight for my heart
(And when you were near no sky was ever quite so clear)
Like stars, so small
Like us. when we fall
Like beggars, like whores
Like lovers, Get Up!
Get up...too far.
let it all go at once
not piece by piece.
but like a whole bucket of stars
dumped into the universe.
Whoooh! Watch it go!
Good-bye small hands, good-bye small heart
good-bye small head
My soul is climbing tree trunks
and swinging from every branch

Am I not?

"Do you think I'm an animal? Am I not? Do you like fur?"
definitely referring to sex, i take this lyric as.. basically we are all animal, we are all human.. women should not have to pretend that they are something they are not.. e.g. shaving off hair, and other sexist, hyper-feministic practices
this has to be my fav song ever i think this song just increable lyrics wise and the sound i think it's about having an openes about feeling like desire and such it's beautiful but still somewhat "shaaming" for a woman
My favorite SK song. It seems to me to be about being our true selves, transcending the box society builds for us, and not being ashamed of that, whether we are whores or stars or both. I love the part where she talks about "the body finally starting to let go" and just going with it and dumping it into the universe "like a whole bucket of stars". Makes aging (something many of us come to fear) sound so beautiful and natural.
To me this song is about emracing life as well as death (let it all go at once) and not dreading the latter (her soul is singing from every branch). "Like beggars, like Stars, like whores, us all" --> we're all going to die no matter who you were.
Could "Get Up" mean get up to heaven?
Anyway, great song, great band.
this is probably my favourite song on the entire album (though you know the rest of the album is just as good). i think its about letting go of all restraints like some of you said. and also something about love maybe? and that we're connected to each other.
I thought the song was about death and dying than about love and desire:
"And when the body finally starts to let go... Good-bye small hands, good-bye small heart good-bye small head"
As in reference to the soul leaving the body which is then free: "My soul is climbing tree trunks and swinging from every branch"
I saw the line "They're calling on me" as spirits calling her, maybe not to heaven but to join them, where everyone, no matter who they are are together. Even the video clip plays on this with everyone picking everyone else up, holding hands.
@amberbreath 100% agree. I have had some big losses that happened suddenly with no warning. This song gives me comfort. Their souls were dumped like a whole bucket of stars into the universe. I love that imagery and how the song describes the joy and freedom of shedding the physical restraints of the body. Great song.

I really cannot stop listening to this song, "fall down on the world before it falls on you" just really fucking great.
there's this interesting shift in the music rhythm which starts with with "I hit the mark! I target moon, I target sky, I target sun. Fall down on the world. Fall down on the world. Fall down on the world...before it falls on you." singed by the backvocal with a sense of permanence, deeper feeling, that is somewhat antithetic in relation to the main vocal and makes a perfect "coupling by contrast".

This song is more about letting yourself go to someone else than death and dying. It's all about desire and I think the line "I hit the mark! I target moon, I target sky, I target sun." refers to the person climaxing. Something or someone is calling on her in the background, but she's so far gone, it's too late. It's about sex.
Yeah I agree with the person who posted above me. Its about sex. It becomes especially clear to me at the start of the 2nd verse. (Do you think I'm an animal?) Its saying how animalistic it is, but there's no need to be ashamed of it, because its just apart of everyones nature.
Yup, I think its referring to sex as well.
