Spartan Lyrics

Billie Holiday on the radio/
my sluggish heart is beating seven beats too slow/
another sad song and another shot of blue/
cold and unconcerned are anything but new/
He said “Love endures all things”/
and it hurts to think He’s right/
If I mark the span of failure/
is his burden just as light?/

chorus
I am, Spartan/
close my heart so tight/
Jesus/
Save me/
from myself tonight/

Limping through the world/
there’s a knowing look or two/
is it just the cripples here/
who understand the truth?/
Why is love so painful/
why do we always lose/
paving pathways for the lost/
the bitter, and recluse?/
He said “Love endures all things”/
and it hurts to think it’s true/
did it nail Him on a cross/
did it crucify Him too?/

bridge
The angels are singing over the plains/
the shepherds are quaking, echoing refrains/
And all of our slogans designed to take away the pain/
meant nothing to the Son of God that night in Bethlehem/

Ah, it's how i feel a lot. How can i be sucha mistake when Jesus is so perfect, will he still love and care for me when i am so horrible. It's totally about our perspective, we get so wrapped up in this world, when it's all about what Jesus did and not ourselves.

I'm not religious at all, but this is a great song.

"He said “Love endures all things”/ and it hurts to think it’s true/ did it nail Him on a cross/ did it crucify Him too?/"

Very provocative lyrics.

well a Spatan is a greek civilization, they were very strong and witty warriors. so these lyrics: I am Spartan Close my heart on tight Jesus save me from myself tonight

well Jesus likes to uplift you and tell you what your really are. you might say, "im a dumb idot who can't do anything right." and since you say that you wont succeed but god says you are Spartan, you are great, and he helps you feel good and be able to move mountains with your confidence and he saves you from yourself.. im not sure but thats what it means to me

I'm going to be bold enough to tell lilevil bunny that you're wrong. To be 'spartan' is based on the greek civilization to be extremely self controlled and austere. Because of this he has completely shut Jesus out, believing he can do things himself. When it comes down to it, all of our little attempts to do things ourselves fail and Jesus is the only one who can help us.

Actually, the word spartan in this song describes the modest and lonely lives some Christians endure. It says so right in the lyric booklet. Haha.

Spartan can mean simple and frugal, without luxuries. I listened to this song for the first time in a long time recently, and keeping this definition in mind, I think largely of my own life. I live in an apartment complex with 4 other guys and my life, like many other christians, is not an outwardly impressive one. Life is full of pain and we sometimes stick with our simple, comfortable lifestyles and refuse to put ourselves out there because we're so afraid of being vulnerable or getting hurt.

In this song, I see a story of a man who lives a life like mine and is caught up in the pain of his sorrows, sadness and failures and doesn't want to open himself up again. "Cold and unconcerned are anything but new." How many of us have ignored the pain of others because we feel like our own pain is greater?

He said Love endures all things and it hurts to think he's right... knowing that our love is sometimes so circumstantial. If I mark the span of failure is his burden just as light? ... If my life is marked with failure, will His salvation still ease my pain and give me peace?

is it just the cripples here who understand the truth? Sometimes it can seem like the only people who truly understand the world and who you are, are those people who have been hurt the way you have.

And yet... love nailed Jesus to the cross and love crucified Him. Jesus knew more about pain and rejection and suffering than any of us. And knows so, so much more about love and its cost.
