chantals best song, the lyrics are a bit messed up like when she says the women's dressed like a pear. i wunder who wayne is maybe some guy she really likes but can't date or sumthing.

Chantal is married to Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace). The name Wayne was used 'cause it fit best - she wanted a name with that sound. I saw an interview where was asked about that. She said she tried Blaaaaa-ane, Dwaaaa-yne and so on, but picked Wayne. Kinda funny.

This is a very pretty song. When I first saw this video, I thought to myself, "Who is this girl? She's fricking gorgeous!" I had no clue it was Chantal! I loved the whole imagery of the video, it was so easy to tell that she was aching for this "Wayne" and wanted to be with him/her. When I listen to this song, I think about my grandmother who passed away a few years ago. I love the chorus that goes "Wait for me, take me up in your hot air ballon and feed me cotton candy", it makes me think about getting away to a place where it's peaceful and perfect (ie. up in a hot air ballon, looking down) The last part of the chorus: "Pray for me 'Cause I'll be there in a couple of years Until then, wait for me." Not to be incredibly morbid or anything, but I think about death when I hear this. When I'm feeling crappy, I think about how great it'll be when I see my grandmother again. That's just my take on this song.

by far one of her best songs,i absolutly love everything about this song,from the lyrics to the music,to me its about a young girl who is in love but is not ready to be in a serious relationship because shes afraid of what might happen,and so she wants to wait until she has matured a bit more and is ready,such a beautiful song.

At a Chantal concert she said she wrote thissong for her brother... I think it may have had something to deal with the death of their mother.

Chantal said this song is about death and God from a child's perspective hence the cotton candy and hot air balloon references.

LOVE this song. But never thought of it as a "wanting to be with" Wayne, for some reason, the "Wayne" for me has always been dead. "Wayne, wait for me, 'cause I'll be there in a couple of years" just made sense to me.

This song is so powerful and so unique. I especially like it because, in my interpretation, it is NOT about a romantic relationship. It is about a young girl's complicated relationship with a father figure type person who is both good and bad. He is good because he takes her up in a hot air balloon - treats her. And he is bad because he drinks (his car smells like beer) and he has a questionable female friend who pretends to be her mother - implies lots of relationships with women, etc.. The girl and 'Wayne' this father figure person, are on a car trip and the car crashes. Wayne dies and the young girl survives and now she must figure out what to do to save herself. The song is about reliving this experience and her complicated relationship with this man in life and through death.

I get really annoyed when people put a sexual connotation to absolutely every thing in music videos. To me the song is far from being about that, and it is just as powerful of a song....

Interesting interpretations!

I've ALWAYS understood it as a child's perspective BECAUSE of the "hot air balloon" and "cotton candy", so it's interesting for me to see others see it that way too. Also, I saw it as a father-daughter type relationship and never once assumed this man was an older lover or something. Why else would she say "When I know youre not my mommy". The only person she COULD say that too would be a father type figure.

I loved that there is this contrast of the child, with this more mature, more sophisticated orchestra playing in the background. I thought they complimented each other very well. And let me just say, the orchestra and the piano playing are by far the most beautiful contributions to the song.

The chorus, while others may think she's screaming, I interpret it as praying. Pleading and begging for "Wayne" to wait for her.

"Make me as fresh as flowers under these rocks and stones". I get shivers. That one line has so many layers to it. I think of it as "Wayne" being able to make her feel beautiful, even when she didnt feel beautiful about herself.

When I listen to this song, I think about a second cousin of mine who who has a strange girlfriend, lives in his brother's dank, crowded and smelly basement (which I visited for the first time when I was younger). But there was one time where he just made me feel so good about myself. And said such kind and comforting words. Listening to this song, I think of him.
