Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall
Do you remember dawn escapes from moon washed college halls
Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square
Do you remember I thought it was confetti in our hair

By the way didn't I break your heart?
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine

Kayleigh is it too late to say I'm sorry?
And Kayleigh could we get it together again?
I just can't go on pretending that it came to a natural end

Kayleigh, oh I never thought I'd miss you
And Kayleigh I thought that we'd always be friends
We said our love would last forever
So how did it come to this bitter end?

Oh, yeah

Do you remember barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars
Do you remember loving on the floor in Belsize park
Do you remember dancing in stilettos in the snow
Do you remember you never understood I had to go

By the way, didn't I break your heart?
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine

Kayleigh I just wanna say I'm sorry
But Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the phone
To hear you've found another lover
To patch up our broken home

Kayleigh I'm still trying to write that love song
Kayleigh it's more important to me now you're gone
Maybe it will prove that we were right
Or ever prove that I was wrong

A great song. Powerful vocals giving the listener an insight into what Fish was feeling throughout the time after the breakup with his girlfriend. Also features some fantastic rhythm work and a beautiful guitar solo in the middle from Steve Rothery.

    Song Comparison

This is an excellent song and I just wanted to point out a really creative, and potentially under recognised use of this song in Episode 4-series 2 of ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’, a UK comedy TV series featuring supermarket assistant manager John Redmond (Peter Kay) and promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson (Sian Gibson) (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Kay%27s_Car_Share).

In addition to depicting the hilarious, on-off, often frustrating relationship between John and Kayleigh ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ has been an opportunity for Peter Kay to show us his superb musical knowledge through ‘Forever FM’ but this little gem really stands out as they appear to have built an entire multi-series production in part around this singular song. Even the fact that the spelling of ‘Kayleigh’ is the same in car share given the multiple possible ways of spelling this name (e.g. Kaylee, Kayleigh, Kailey, Kaylie, Cayley etc.) implies that they have decided to shape this production using ‘Kayleigh’ by Marillion.

In the apparent final episode (mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/peter-kay-delivers-shock-news-10340924) on the way home from work, Kayleigh asks John about their relationship, but he tries to ignore the question and will not declare his true feelings. Kayleigh declares her love to John then leaves the car just before hearing Kayleigh by Marillion on ‘Forever FM’, as requested by John. John chases Kayleigh down the street jumping over vehicles before declaring his love. However, the latter turns out to be just a dream and viewers are left feeling heartbroken after two series of in suspense hoping the couple would get together at the end.

So many of the lyrics in the song and the interpretations of these here on Songmeanings so perfectly describe the relationship between John and Kayleigh that has developed through ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ but in particular the following really stands out:

‘Kayleigh is it too late to say I'm sorry? And Kayleigh could we get it together again? I just can't go on pretending that it came to a natural end Kayleigh, oh I never thought I'd miss you And Kayleigh I thought that we'd always be friends We said our love would last forever So how did it come to this bitter end?’

So I hope you all go away and watch ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ to, if nothing else, enjoy a musically inspired theme throughout, culminating after 2 series in ‘Kayleigh’ by Marillion which I believe played a pivotal role in inspiring the production.

This is the song Fish wrote about his breakup with his girlfriend at the time. His girlfriend's name was Kay Lee so he called the song "Kayleigh" so as not to point fingers at her...clever don't you think, hehe. I wonder how the band members knew instantly the song was about her in particular, hmm...This was also Marillions main hit song next to Lavendar (which was a minor hit).

This is the highest ever charting Marillion song reaching #2 in the United Kingdom behind charity fundraiser "You'll Never Walk Alone" by the Crowd.

Although i dont like Pop Rock ballads especially if they are done by a band like Marillion which used to be more into Prog Rock in the early 80's but this seems to be one of their best short songs in the Fish era.

My brother is crazy about this song and especially the solo!!!.

The album "Misplaced Childhood" is one of my favourite from Marillion. I believe Fish had the idea for this album while on acid.

This song is just "The Shit" This song brings back so many memories for me I love it. And it reminds me of my first love who played a guitar and sang it. I was much younger than him. And I guess age and maturity was a issue for him, but when I hear this song all I can do is think about what could have been.

If you read the liner notes in Misplaced Childhood, Fish had this song when he was on an acid trip, and most of the band members were against having Fish's ex girlfriend used in a song, but they went ahead with it, and now, thanks to them 95% of Kayleigh's in the UK are named after that song, my fiancee included lol.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
