This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Its about long smouldering tender kisses..get your tongue......i feel like i am on fire......its a sunkissed world.......woah, woah, and we can flow.... on and on and on, round and round and round, ...down and down and down, wa-ah....
what does this song mean to me? its the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. without a doubt...
Through 'feeling' the song, you might understand it. Whenever I hear it from opening to end, I get a smile on my face while feeling anticipatory, excited and positive.
If there is a heaven, this will be on the soundtrack.
i feel like it's one of those songs that can have so many explanations it's useless trying to capture and fit them all into one comment, so just this once i'll say it's beautiful. that's all. :)
Can't look out Can't look in You just might Get yourself Get right out of the doors In the light We'll make love And we can go And we can go And we can go And we can go And we can go
We're covered by the sacred fire And then you cut me to You cut me to the bone
Can't look out Can't look in You just might Get yourself Get right out of the doors In the light We'll make love And we can go And we can go And we can go And we can go And we can go
We're covered by the sacred fire Then you cut me to You cut me to the bone
Without a doubt
We're covered by the sacred fire Then you cut me to You cut me to the bone
Can't look in Guilty boy Guilty girl 'Cause you're both cursed
Out of the doors In the light We'll make love And then we can go
Can't look in Guilty boy Guilty girl 'Cause you're both cursed
Out of the doors In the light We'll make love And then we can go
