Your Church Is Red Lyrics
when I fell inside out of the snow and by your fire
in this time I've learned
change your hate cause that's your slave
turn your head from your evil ways
your church is red blood flows black from your heart
we build our temple one brick at a time
and the straw I steal to build your nest
I've learned
change your hate cause that's your slave
turn your head from the evil ways
your church is red blood flows black
and when the bells ring they'll all come to see
when the bells ring out tonight
for my wounded heart
you can paint it over cause below I know
and when the bells ring they'll all come to see
there's a fire in the fields a killer in the mirror
when the bells ring out tonight
for my change of heart
in this time I've learned
change your hate cause that's your slave
turn your head from your evil ways
your church is red blood flows black from your heart
we build our temple one brick at a time
and the straw I steal to build your nest
I've learned
change your hate cause that's your slave
turn your head from the evil ways
your church is red blood flows black
and when the bells ring they'll all come to see
when the bells ring out tonight
for my wounded heart
you can paint it over cause below I know
and when the bells ring they'll all come to see
there's a fire in the fields a killer in the mirror
when the bells ring out tonight
for my change of heart

Does this song sound like he's confessing to a murder to anyone else? "There's a killer in the mirror" "When the bells ring they'll all come to see." It souns like he's apollogizing for it. "Cange your hate," "For my change of heart." Very strange. I hope I'm wrong.
could be. even if it was about this, i mean, that doesn't mean he did ACTUALLY kill someone. their songs are very dark.
You'd be suprised how many songs are fictional. In my experience, if songs draw too much on personal experience, they start to rely too much on listeners liking it because they can "relate to it so much". Which is how you end up with Dashboard Confessional. I'm getting off subject, though. Awesome song, but I'm not sure about it being about killing someone.
I see more religious symbolism in the song, referring to the church (duh) being red. I think it's about how so much of religion is based on hate, rather than the love it's supposed to be. (see the website www.godhatesfags.com)
I really like deliriumtrigger's interpretation of this song. It's hard to say what exactly he was trying to say, but in my opinion, it is about the weight that hate can have on a person. It may sound lame, but I think this song has a similar meaning to that of the movie American History X. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it is about a neo-Nazi (Edward Norton) who recently was released from jail for killing two men after his car was being stolen. While incarcerated, he realized that all this hate that he had, was not helping anyone, and when he was released he changed his ways. He had to basically rebuild his life when he got out, and this is what reminds me of the song. Specifically the lines:
in this time I've learned change your hate cause that's your slave turn your head from your evil ways your church is red blood flows black from your heart we build our temple one brick at a time
I highly doubt there is any actual connection at all, but it's what I get from it. I would recommend American History X to anyone, it's one of my favorites.
i agree, i think it is about how hate can distort who someone is, and letting go of that. its a really pretty song
this is a suicidal song.(a killer in the mirror).he is talking to hiself
