there are no trains that leave from the maze
my only chance was a ship to escape
if you are the light house in the storm
I'll be the ship with a thousand dead souls
how long will they believe in a light so dim
down in the gallows the darkness glows
it was hard to see in the hearts of them
if you see a light call down below
I'll be moving and sorting out our fears
how long will we believe in a light so dim
cause time is all we have so make the time
throw down the line I'll see to climb
if it's held close it may just work
if you are the light house in the storm
I'll be the ship filled with a thousand dead souls
and time is all we have so take the time
to make the time and make time to take the time

General Commentthere is no normal way of getting out of myself, i had to take a chance.
If you are what guides me, i'll be what carries a cargo that has forgotten its worth. But how long will this cargo believe in the promise of salvation. My inner doubt is becoming stronger. And it is harder to see myself. But you will see me trying. Trying to figure it out. For how long will i wait, because all that i have left to value is time. I will reuse my time, by taking some time out of using time.

General CommentThis is the spookiest BHP song. I love it. I agree about the Bass kicking in....just perfect.

I think its about false hope and pure delusion too....but he must be referring to something. What I don't know.

General Commentfoolmooninu has a fantastic way of getting his/her interpretation of the song across, and I do believe I subscribe to this interpretation, myself.

My InterpretationThe imagery reminds me heavily of The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, especially the sketches by Gustav Dore. Linked to the story of the Ancient Mariner, I also find the idea of the Ship of Fools (insane asylums were often on boats early on)...

Still neither of those images really get at the core of the song. It's a last ditch effort at escape from a dark inescapable world. It seemed to be either a society or social norms, or a family although it's hard to say. But looking to someone who has seen the light, or is a bright personality, that can help lead one away from the depression and anxiety that comes form being trapped. For those who have been seriously depressed (situational or chemically based) sometimes there's a person who seems to be that lighthouse. That person that makes worth trying to get out worth it. Even if that person isn't what we first see them as, the hope they offer at that moment is enough to save us.

In the end sometimes when all options seem extinguished we must just hang onto the rope and blindly climb until we can see our way out. Over all this is a very dark but moving piece.

General CommentMakes me think of a haunted ship. But it's probably just about love, as all pop songs are.
