He's a genius. In the first part of the song (until "Te espero siempre...") he's singing so sure that he could forget his love. Anyway, I think that in the last part he comes back to reality: what he said before was a lie he was telling himself to "survive" th loss of his loved one, her leaving, but he still loves her and can't help that feeling.
