It's a beautiful world but everyone's insane :: Either you swim or either you fade :: It's a revolution time we're sleeping at the wheel :: Apocalypse child in a nuclear field :: We want to change the world but not what holds us back :: I want to be for you what I've never had :: And all of this time I was just trying to reach you :: Through the rain traffic :: As you |oat into space :: Your white eyes hide your face :: As you float in between - I am with you :: If you leave :: Fragile to the waves - vicissitudes of days :: When I am with you I feel a little brave

The madness and the wars the circles that we run :: Confusion we import look what we have become :: And all of this time I was just trying to reach you :: Through the rain traffic :: As you float into space :: Your white eyes hide your face :: As you float in between - I die with you :: If you leave - I die with you I die with you

The lyrics are hardly open to interpretation; they explain themselves quite well. He describes himself following a girl, and protecting her, where ever she travels. With her, he feels empowered and enlightened... however, he may not completely have the girl as "his". This song cries out to the woman, simply asking her whether she wants him there or not.

wow..just wow, this is my favorite song from the golden state album - i love it - and i love the lyrics - one of the best lines i ever read was :

I want to be for you what I've never had

Sadly, this is so true and applies for me all the time i try to get into a new relationship - mostly i give 10 times more than i ever recieve back.... oh my thats life

The song itself is probably (imho) about trying to pursuade a girl or woman whatever that you (he) is the right person for her...

And all of this time I was just trying to reach you

he tries hard, really hard and does everything he can that she will finally choses him and gives him a chances

This is a beautiful song about a man's devotion to his lover. He has see the evil, self-destructive, and sinful world. We only preach morality and change to feel righteous, but really we embrace this sin to satisfy our weakness. The world would die without this false satisfaction (afterall we are only human right?). This lesson he has learned about life and he is trying to explain it to his lover to protect her in hopes that she will not have to learn the hard way as he did. He admits he is fragile but goes on to say how brave he feels in this dangerous world when he is with her. In th chorus he is comforting her, telling her that in this rain filled world that cries with sorrow he sees her white eyes (her innocence) as she floats through space (not knowing of the evil around her) and he is saying that he will protect her even if she dies ("leaves"). He is willing to die for this woman because he wants to preserve her innocence. His love goes beyond the limits of this world. He will protect her even in death by protecting her in life.

I can't believe there aren't more comments on this song!

To me, when I first heard this song, I thought of a man devoting himself to his dying lover. If she dies, he will go with her.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
