Livin' On The Edge Lyrics
There's something wrong with the world today
I don't know what it is
Something's wrong with our eyes
We're seeing things in a different way
And God knows it ain't his
It sure ain't no surprise...ya
(Chorus)
We're livin' on the edge
Livin' on the edge
Livin' on the edge
Livin' on the edge
There's someting wrong with the world today
The lightbulb's gettin' dim
There's meltdown in the sky
If you can judge a wise man
By the color of his skin
Then mister, you're a better man than I
(Chorus)
We're livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody)
You can't help yourself from fallin'
Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody)
You can't help yourself at all
Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody
You can't stop yourself from fallin'
Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody)
Tell me what you think about our sit-u-a-tion
Complication - aggravation
Is getting to you
Yeah...
If chicken little tells you that the sky is fallin'
Even if it wasn't would you still come crawling
Back again...I bet you would my friend
Again & again & again & again & again
Yeah...
Tell me what you think about your sti-u-a-tion
Complication - aggravation
Is getting to you
Eah...
If chicken little tells you that the sky is fallin'
Even if it was would you still come crawlin'
Back again...I bet you would my friend
Again & again & again & again
There's something right with the world today
And everybody knows it's wrong
But we can tell'em no or we could let it go
But I would rather be a hangin' on
Chorus
I don't know what it is
Something's wrong with our eyes
And God knows it ain't his
It sure ain't no surprise...ya

The ideology of our race has many flaws, it's as if people see and don't care or are not equipped with the right set of eyes to see injustice in their own world as it is all around us from the homeless people, to the social classes and justice system which are just examples of issues anybody see's anywhere. Sooner or later there will be a true revolt from people (I hear this song was written after the LA Riots) and thus society and the systems in place are living on the edge.
There's a bigger picture than the systems that are in place right now which control the masses of people, one where we all work together and nobody is better than the next man and everybody get's what they deserve....no more and no less. It's the systems in place which downgrade our society and further postpone advancement in all areas of life. I really don't see Government, Religion, Schools, and the Justice System as part of the advancement.....Schools I say because of the way they are designed these days.
The thing is people are so used to the way the world works, and it's never going to change as there will always be war and injustice. My hope is that out in the universe there is another life of some sort to experience than the insignificance of earth.
Perhaps he's talking about Armegedon? - meltdown in the sky. People in power will never give the masses an even break - it's safer to go with the flow - but Stephen would rather rebel although I think he knows it's only getting worse but he would rather go naturally. Don't rock the boat

It happens to end up this way, because people are not all equal, and its amoral to an individual's psyche to believe there is... I think this song is more about the evolution of entitlement. "There is something wrong with our eyes." The envy stemming from seeing your neighbor do better than you is growing, because everyone in their youth were handed participation trophies and were told they did just as good as the all-star that scored 3 goals a game. We're all becoming more and more poor sports at the game of life. Your life isn't worse off because your neighbor does better than you, that is a road to hell.
This song is of pure awesomeness. This song is GREATLY overlooked, and if it weren't for Guitar Hero, most people wouldn't even know it exsisted. I think it's about how bad the world has gotten, but it's the human race's fault, "There's something wrong with the world today, and God know's it ain't his."
Along with addressing religion, racism, and how people would rather put the blame on someone else other than themselves, this song says that even though there's something wrong with the world, we'd rather keep hangin' on.
But that is my humble opinion. And another (not so)humble opinion of mine is: THE BAD BOYS FROM BOSTON ARE THE GREATEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THIS COUNTRY SINCE THE MAKING OF SLICED BREAD.
@Tahreh I disagree that this song is overlooked, maybe its just your generation, but I do agree with the rest of your comment. This song is more prevalent today than in its time... due to social media and people's constant focus of posting an envy Olympics to make their small lives seem better on the internet. No one cares expect yourself of your accomplishments in life. I mean obviously your parents and close relatives do care, but your interpretations of such events is the only judge that matters in excelling your own life. They can tell you their proud of...

I mean obviously your parents and close relatives do care, but your interpretations of such events is the only judge that matters in excelling your own life. They can tell you their proud of this or that, but ultimately, at the end of the day, the only true betterment out of such an experience is the personal aspiration that grows within yourself on an individual level... not making others envious of those accomplishments/events.
I read somewhere this song was written right after the LA riots. To me the song is saying that there is a lot wrong with the world but we should still keep hanging on. "There's something right with the world today And everybody knows it's wrong Well we could tell them no Or we could let it go But I would rather be a' hanging on."
This song is about a louse that found home on the head of famous guitarist from rock group U2. It's living on The Edge.
This song seems to be forgotten about over the years. Not one of their best songs, but I suppose it still deserves honor. Well I guess it's about how crazy the world is but we still keep going about doing our usual.
I think it is about how cruel the world can get
This is an awesome song!! I LOVE it! I think it's about how bad this world has gotten, 'We're seeing things in a different way, God knows it aint his.' With racism and all this other stuff in this world, it's gotten so ugly with racism among much more.
I think it is about how bad the world is but maybe also a reflection on the things he did when he was on his drug addiction and the things he saw others and himself doing for drugs
"If you can judge a wise man By the color of his skin Then mister, you're a better man than I"
is a direct quote from "You're a Better Man Than I" by the Yardbirds. Both are good songs.
I agree, this song is probly about how bad the world has become. But, maybe "God knows it aint his" is just pushing at people who are prejudice against religion (there's a name for them but I can't remember it now).
"If you can judge a wise man By the color of his skin " is obviously poking at racists.
"You can't help yourself from falling" might be refering to how prejudism and racism and sexism and all that is there, and how most people ARE prejudice and stuff, so it's not hard to become it yourself.
I'm in love with this song, one of my favorite Aerosmith songs. :D
