All Hope In Eclipse

This is definitely about Satan rising and enslaving all, while everyone else remains happy in their beliefs that Heaven will always win... (Ignorance is truly bliss). Basically, they won't know what hit them.

I think u r right there, but i can't help but think this has somethin to do with ware wolves, it would make sense, in the first verse "in the shadow of miss anne thropy", suggesting lycanthropy which basically means to turn into a warewolf, also the actual song "all hope in eclipse", man turns to wolf on a full moon, but if there is no moon, then problem solved. I'm probably wrong though as ure view would appear to fit better, although i do have no idea were hitler comes into it for fuks sake.

My interpretation of this song is that it is about a man who was a Satanist, or a member of the occult, who fell deeply in love with a women who's beliefs where the exact opposite of his. And although she loved him back, she felt that she was forbidden by her beliefs to be with him and therefore broke up with him or refused a proposal or something like that, sending whoever the man in this song is into rage and depression also making him swear revenge on God. But then, the woman relizes that she loves him so much that she would give up living for eternity so that she could live how she wanted to on earth and be with him. I feel as though I'm missing out a lot of the songs meaning though and agree with the person above about the warewolf idea, although I'm not sure with how it fits into what I believe the song is about. I do agree also that there are a few lines that could make sense as to being about Hitler, but I don't think the song is about him.

phatpat, I can assure that this song has nothing to do with werewolves. The reference to Miss Anne Thropy is a scarcely noticed pun on the word misanthrope which is defined as a person who bears a great hatred for humanity. It is not a reference to lycanthropy. The refrain "all hope lies in eclipse" is likely meant to simply say that hope lies doused in shadow.

Although I do not neccessarily believe this song is about Hitler specifically, it does seem to fall in line with the concepts thereof. For instance:

The comming of extinction Hitler desired to set the mass of "undesirable races unto extionction"

An acid reign to purify the world Hilter saught to purify the world of undesirables.

Save for an unfurled flag of hate the hooked cross or swastika

To enthral a mindless zombie race The aryans who mindlessly follwed Hitler's lead

In spite of these similarities, because of the nature of much of the song, I really doubt that this is simply about "nazis and stuff"

I don't think this song is about nazism or hitler but I understand how the imagery can be interpretated as such and wonder if this was Dani's intention while writing the lyrics. There is definatly a love story in there somewhere and I wonder if this is a tragic love story of a satanist falling in love with a christian and vice versa or something similar and weather or not the lyrics are a variation on the literary genre of Love Suicides. The most well known Western example of this genre is Romeo and Julliett.

Actually i think its about the end of the world and the christian lover of the satanist who gives up heaven to be with him, if that makes any sense.

definatly my fav CoF song at the moment. I love how a lot of cradle of Filth songs build and have a kind of momentum to them an sorta give a false impression of calmness in the middle, I can not think of a finer example that this song

There are several ways I've interpreted this song, though none have to do with Hitler or Satanists.

The first is that this is Lucifer, "Legion I arose", and his fall from grace as well as the aftermath.

"A thousand nights once succoured Me In the shadow of misanthropy" (this word meaning the hatred of mankind, which would make sense b/c essentially man is the reason Lucifer fell)

A cruel tongue at work in Her secret vaults Sent Rebellion's embers into revolt The comming of extinction Synched to whimpers of my name (her being mankind, or possibly the angels, rebellion's embers being the aftermath of the war in Heaven, and the “whimpers” being the fear with which Lucifer is now regarded)

An acid reign to purify the world...(he and God are now playing a game of who can win the most souls)

A sniper at the gates of spattered pearl (Pearly Gates being the common term for the gates into Heaven and Lucifer who is doing his best to keep man from entering)

In this version, Lucifer did love God, hence his "torn heart" this "flag of hate" being his vow to prove just how corruptible and crappy God's newest creations (the zombie race) really are)

Theory TWO: There is a love story here.

“I bored of war with God” perhaps he blamed God for loosing this girl which points the idea that she might have died, as well as the mention of the pearly gates before) “She stole the soul hate had sold away

This however adds weight to the idea that after losing her, his hatred for man and everything else grew, because he lost her after she left Heaven to be with him.)
