I woke up and called this morning
The tone of your voice was a warning
That you don't care for me anymore

I made up the bed we sleep in
I looked at the clock when you creep in
It's 6 AM and I'm alone

Did you know when you go it's the perfect ending
To the bad day I was just beginning
When you go, all I know is you're my favorite mistake

Your friends are sorry for me
They watch you pretend to adore me
But I am no fool to this game

Now here comes your secret lover
She'll be unlike any other
Until your guilt goes up in flames

Did you know when you go it's the perfect ending
To the bad day I'd gotten used to spending
When you go, all I know is you're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake

Well maybe nothing lasts forever
Even when you stay together
I don't need forever after, but it's your laughter won't let me go
So I'm holding on this way

Did you know could you tell you were the only one
That I ever loved?
Now everything's so wrong

Did you see me walking by, did it ever make you cry?
Now you're my favorite mistake
Yeah you're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake

my favorite mistake isn't the same circumstances as this song, but he's still my favorite.

Its a relationship that was a mistake, but you would do it all over again. Because although they could miss the bad parts...they would miss the good parts, too.

    I can relate..

So this song is about her relationship with Eric Clapton - weird, huh? Atleast that's what I've heard. She wrote it after they broke up.
I think that everyone in their life has a favorite mistake, I know I do. We had an amazing time together, but in the end I knew that it was all a mistake. We had a wonderful time together, and I think that I was actually in love with him at the time...but it's all gone now - I guess I miss him. sigh I haven't had a decent relationship since then. I'm so pathetic

wow...I totally repeated myself there...amazing, wonderful...it all means the same thing. I must be dumb. But honestly, that's how I feel...I just had to repeat myself because I can't read. Ugh...

I love those 'favourite mistakes' in my life. Even though I might look back now and say "never again" they were fun while they lasted. No regrets!

I have one favorite mistake but just recently she's turned into a real bitch. Not to me but to others. After telling other people what I thought they all said "didn't you know?" I just never saw the selfish and jealous side of her personality until we stopped dating and I stopped liking her. It's a shame because I have a few great memories of her and now they're tainted by her actions of the past few weeks. I try to remember the good times and how I felt and I know that it was a mistake, but of all the mistakes I've made, she's my favourite.

I love this song. One of my ex's sent the lyrics to me when we broke up. There was like an unspoken happiness/sadness to the whole deal.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
