Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
'Cause sunbeams are not made like me
And don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to die for thee

Oh, Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
'Cause sunbeams are not made like me
And don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
'Cause sunbeams are not made like me
And don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

Don't expect me to lie
Don't expect me to cry
Don't expect me to die for thee

Oh, Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam
'Cause sunbeams are not made like me
And don't expect me to cry
For all the reasons you had to die
Don't ever ask your love of me

It's not supposed to mean "Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam," actally. It's an imperative. "Jesus, don't want me for a sunbeam." See the title? They're basically saying "Sorry, Jesus, you're gonna have to find someone else to be your sunbeam, because I can't be bothered." I guess it's kind of a break-up song with Jesus, or religion in general.

Oh, and the song is kind of a response to an old Christian hymn called "I'll Be a Sunbeam" or something like that.

there are over 100 replies to the nirvana version of this, but only 5 for this one! shockin' stuff. Well, I personally think this song is beautiful. It's a spin off a Christian worship song obvisously.

At first glance I took it as someone basically rejecting the whole story of Jesus and God etc. Feeling cheated by life and cheated by God, so why should he feel any compassion for the death of Jesus and what Jesus has [apperently] done, if he's getting nothing in return?

ouch!!! i really really like this song but my mother would kick me out if she read the lyrics... they're so strong... disappointment... one of the worst feelings in the world is to have to doubt something, you once thought unquestionable...

The 'you' they keep refering to is jesus? So then I think this is about jesus and how they're not worthy of him or something like that. Or they're not religious, or don't believe in him, and wouldn't lie, cry, die for him?

This song has always represented religious disillusionment for me, someone deciding that they want to turn their back on who used to be their "lord" and "saviour," deciding they aren't one of his followers, or "sunbeams," and deciding they no longer want to dedicate their life, or death to Him. Anyway, I'm talking out my ass again...

I thought it might be about being refused by someone who he respects alot and is like a Jesus figure to him, and now this person needs him but he is refusing them.

The name of this song is wrong on here, it should be "Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam". "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam" is an old Christian song, and they changed it round.

Nope, the song title posted here is correct. In the liner notes, it says "One Catholic life rejected in one song. What a silly billy!"

I personally think it just is: "Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam, Cause sunbeams are not made like me," Jesus doesn't want me cause I'm not a good enough. by that i think they mean 'I'm not perfect, I'm a sinner, i suck" in not so many words.

"And don't expect me to cry, For all the reasons you had to die, Don't ever ask your love of me" I think it's "I'm not gonna cry for the reason you died because i don't care or believe it. and Don't ask me to love you because i don't want to.'

    that's my interpretation anyway

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
