You don't know me but I'm the girl who lives upstairs
Apartment two fourteen the girl with long brown hair
I know you've seen me 'cause I've seen you but we've never spoken
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to, yeah I want to
Please forgive me I know this is kind of strange
To stop you here out of the blue asking your name
But I couldn't let another day go by being strangers
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to,yeah I want to
Yeah I'd love to get to know you better
Maybe we could get together sometime
Anytime at all
La la la
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to, yeah I want to
Apartment two fourteen the girl with long brown hair
I know you've seen me 'cause I've seen you but we've never spoken
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to, yeah I want to
Please forgive me I know this is kind of strange
To stop you here out of the blue asking your name
But I couldn't let another day go by being strangers
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to,yeah I want to
Yeah I'd love to get to know you better
Maybe we could get together sometime
Anytime at all
La la la
I haven't met you
But I want to
I haven't kissed you
I don't know you
But I want to, yeah I want to

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
