This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Wow, I can't believe so many people here think that he killed her! It's extremely obvious from the lyrics that he didn't. He left her safe and sound by the river (he went home) and she went walking all alone (she stayed because she wanted to walk alone for a little while before heading home herself) and later on she was found dead. This guy is blamed by the townspeople because he has a bad past and/or the people just plain never liked him. I like the idea someone said of him being a bastard child, which explains why the town didn't like him even at age 7. As someone else also stated, what would be the point of the song if he had killed her?!? "People never trusted me, and then I met a nice girl and killed her. The end." e_e

If he killed her and the police asked him about it, he's not going to admit he killed her. He's going to make up an excuse and he is going to make it a big excuse. The very fact that he feels he has to SWEAR right away indicates that he did kill her. If someone questioned me, I would first tell them I didn't do it. But I wouldn't swear right away. Normally people only use the word "SWEAR" when they are lying and trying hard to get someone to believe them.<br /> <br /> Of course he is an unreliable narrator. He makes himself look like he is completely normal. A 7 year old boy is not going to be seen as weird by the community unless he really is weird.
