I've been living for years in question some obsession was i less to live without answers as a life cried wolf i'm ashamed to mention my anguish but silence lies empty if i say it again can i kill it will you lend me your ears breathe in breathe out exhale acting sweating a broken smile provides them a view projection is nothing new just once i would like them to feel it suffer in my skin for a moment stand in my shoes filled with swelling blues [chorus] i keep this room and this room keeps me chained to my organs i am quarantined to a place that's dark staring at three walls the door is locked to them 'maybe now that they all know it you’ll find solace as you'r drowning in narcissism or is it self-loathing 'cause you fought it all in your head boy psychosomatic they used to humor you now they pity you and nothing's changed [repeat chorus] the door is locked behind me if i say it again can i kill it because they're sick of my complaining and i am sick of being sick maybe these will cure you completely chemicals deeply saviors until you're dependent don't let them go to your head i'm ashamed to mention my anguish but silence lies empty silence lies

This is probably my favorite song by lagwagon as far as lyrics go. Genius.
amazing lyrics best line-"they're sick of my complaining and i am sick of being sick" "maybe these will cure you completely chemicals deeply saviors until you're dependent don't let them go to your head" "i'm ashamed to mention my anguish but silence lies empty" "silence lies"
I think it's about inability to find a connection with people to the point that it leads to a psychiatric treatment. He's got a problem, he can't resolve it completely on his own, but when he tries talking about it, people's reaction does not help. He thinks he cannot find empathy by talking his problem out, because people don't have his experiences. Maybe he's just framing his problem all wrong (just complaining) and the society is not able or feels responsible to help him out. They just laugh at him, and then pity him. He feels isolated. He knows there's a problem with him, and that makes him feel even worse. But still, silence resolves nothing. Silence is used as surrogate for lying, postponing. It's about selfdeepening angst.
i think he is in a hospital and wants to get out, but he is too sick to go. And he is sick of having to stay in this dark room spending his time staring at the three walls he is able to see...
whats "silence lies empty" mean?
i don't think its about drugs really, there's a little bit about medication at the end "maybe these will cure you completely chemicals deeply saviors until you're dependent don't let them go to your head" anyways this song is sweet
It's about anxiety where it becomes a disease, anti-anxiety medications are pretty damn addictive (valium, xanax, klonopin, mogadon, estazolam, tranxene, restoril etc..) and Joey was really anxious and depressed during the Hoss times, re: Wind In Your Sail, divorcing his wife or a break up with his long time girlfriend. Self-reflection on how anxiety disorders appear to others as just being a whining fuck when in reality you are extremely hurting inside, but since it doesn't show....people are just sick of you claiming you are sick.

he could be talking about prozac, which replaces seretotin in the brain, which they 'think' is the cause of depression... to me it looks like staying in your room because you're lonely, bored and depressed, but you're putting an act on. That's just my view... I'm probably wrong, I'd love to know the full meaning of the song though...
i thinks thats a song about a man who was interned because he's psychotic. I love this song
he's depressed. he's sick of feeling that way and having to explain it. people used to humor him, but now they pity him because he has been diagnosed.
i think this song plays on a lot of catch-22's that you experience when your depressed to make the point that depression is something you can think your way out of but a general conflicted constant state of mind.
is this about drugs???
