After You My Friend Lyrics

I asked joey one time I saw them in concert what this is about he said its about someone on death row and has committed a crime and has to deal with court and sentencing....cool

ok so im wrong, but even if its about a guy on death row or a guy whose girl dies.....i like to inturpret it as just some lonely guy who learns to get past the lonliness and finds happiness in himself. Regardless, its a great song with great lyrics. joey cape is so good with words

I've never thought of the song being that way, but that's an interpretation I could see as being true. I've always thought it was about someone who doesn't want to bog himself down with all the crap that relationships bring, so he isn't in one. Everyone pities him because he's "alone" but he's fine with it. I've thought of the girl as an ex-girlfriend rather than someone who has died, but I could see it both ways.

umm...Joey's a good guy and all but I believe he was just fuckin with you about the death row interpretation. Seems to me dodgerbolt has a pretty good idea of what this song is about.

Joey probably wrote the damn song, and thats what i got out of it also.
Here he is awaiting sentence A fool to think that anyone can escape guilt and anguish A subtlety that can't be learned A subtlety that can't be taught

if you listen to it i dont think he was fuckin with me...its about a couple and the guy murders his wife and doesn't care about it until he gets sentenced in court (He is caught in the lure of second thoughts He might still care). He won't tell anyone why he did it which is the secretcy part(Bound in secrecy His voice will only dignify their fears). just about a fucked up guy who goes mad i see it i guess no one else does

it's one of the best songs i know, no matter how th text is

i dont think "cute" and "girlfriend dying" belong in the same sentence....
Maybe if it's from The Smiths.
