Damned Ladies Lyrics
Desdemona do not go to sleep
Brown-eyed Tosca don't believe the creep
I see it in his eyes
And why don't you ladies
Believe me when I'm screaming?
I always believe you
Violetta keep your man locked up
Or like Cio-Cio you will end up
Burned by love or sickness
And why don't you ladies
Believe me when I'm screaming?
I always believe you
There is a knock at the door
Tell me it's not Mimi again
Or is it Gilda's waiting passion to be stabbed and killed again?
Katya Kabanova, why did you marry him?
You knew his mother
Was a bitch and would keep hold of him
Oh Pamina got away from mama
Before the age of Rambo Opera
Damned ladies of Orpheus
Your arias cause a stir in my sad
Sad and lonely heart
Brown-eyed Tosca don't believe the creep
I see it in his eyes
Believe me when I'm screaming?
I always believe you
Or like Cio-Cio you will end up
Burned by love or sickness
Believe me when I'm screaming?
I always believe you
Tell me it's not Mimi again
Or is it Gilda's waiting passion to be stabbed and killed again?
You knew his mother
Was a bitch and would keep hold of him
Before the age of Rambo Opera
Your arias cause a stir in my sad
Sad and lonely heart

Isn't this all about women from plays and stories and legends who WERE crazy when it came to love?
Yeah they're all women characters from operas. Desdemona is from Verdi's "Otello" Tosca is from Puccini's "La Tosca" Violetta is from Verdi's "La Traviata" Cio-cio is from Puccini's "Madam Butterfly" Mimi is from Puccini's "La Boheme" (upon which Rent was based, by the way... same Mimi) Gilda is from Verdi's "Rigoletto" Katya Kabanova is from Janacek's opera of the same name Pamina is from Mozart's "The Magic Flute"
My brain is basically exploding from reference overload. Exploding in a good way.
He's empathizing with women, all of these women are women that were devoted in love and had men to terrible things to them that essentially ruined their lives. "your arias caused a stir in my sad and lonely heart." an aria is a solo in an opera. He's saying their stories make his heart go out to women. Give the man more credit, he's an artist.
I thought that he was complaining through metaphor that all the women in his life always complain about their love life to him and he sympathizes and helps them, but the favour is never returned.
Well this might explain why Rufus "opted" to be gay. he must think women are crazy when it comes to love.
