Take Me Away Lyrics
Strange shapes light up the night
I've never seen 'em though I hope I might
Don't ask if they are real
The men in black, their lips are sealed
Fantasy fills my mind
To leave this place before my time
Release myself from earthly care
My dream may be your nightmare
Chorus:I turn my hopes up to the sky
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away
Come on take me away
Come here girl close to me
A thousand stars your eyes can see
First one we see tonight
I wish I may I wish I might
Chorus:
Jam
Chorus:
I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away
I've never seen 'em though I hope I might
Don't ask if they are real
The men in black, their lips are sealed
To leave this place before my time
Release myself from earthly care
My dream may be your nightmare
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away
Come on take me away
A thousand stars your eyes can see
First one we see tonight
I wish I may I wish I might
Jam
Chorus:
I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away

blue oyster cult had an almost obsession with the thought of the extraterrestrial, they even made a concept album telling a story of an alien/human on earth. this song is neither about suicide nor acid, it's about an alien abduction, believe it or not. strange shapes light up the night-referring to UFOs the men in black-referring to the FBI release myself from earthly care-leave the care of people, and be taken into the care of aliens.
The Men in Black are not the FBI. They are another organization. The Men in Black have been around for a long time, longer than the '40's and '50's. As far back as the 1700's, and most likely much farther. It would be my guess that the Men in Black are not attached to any government.

@BOCult1904 Right, it's so obvious, it's about Ufo's/Aliens/Abduction.

Yeah, the guy above me summed it up pretty dang well. This song and ETI are both awesome songs that have references to the "men in black."
definatly without a doubt about aliens.
Strange shapes light up the night I've never seen 'em though I hope I might Don't ask if they are real The men in black, their lips are sealed
the first half means that the singer would like to see aliens. The second half means that the goverment wont talk about aliens.
Fantasy fills my mind To leave this place before my time Release myself from earthly care My dream may be your nightmare
the singer fantasizes about meeting an ET, and leaving earth before he dies. Thogh he dreams of this, it may be your night mare.
turn my hopes up to the sky I'd like to know before I die Memories will slowly fade I lift my eyes and say Come on take me away Come on take me away
he would like to know before he dieswether there are aliens or not. HE also thinks that the aliens would probobly erase his memory any way. He wants them to take him away.
then, he and his girlfriend wish on the starts to meet ETs.
good song, obvious meaning.
I agree it's definetely about aliens, in fact I think it fits with their whole Imaginos concept. They originally wanted Imaginos to be a double album and had other songs besides Astronomy that were written on past albums that went along with the concept and it involved an alien race.
It's about wanting to be taken away by aliens. Awesome song.
see BOC's song "The Vigil". IMHO, their best song ever. Also has same meanings.
I love this site. I love what people see in the lyrics. I think every band intends for each individual to interpret, but sometimes, especially with more thinking man's bands like BOC with more ethereal lyrics, they have their obvious stories then there's more mysterious. This is obvious. Take me away is about aliens rescuing someone who feels the earth is no longer a nice place to live. BOC write a lot of songs about aliens. Probably more than any other band.
But I don't think it's cool to put other people down on the net. Let them have their say. It may mean something to them, maybe nothing in common with what was written about originally, but it's their life, their perspective, and they're entitled to that.

I agree with you about 'The Vigil' being about Aliens.

To me the song is about death. Its a more subtle meaning, but the lines that i get most of that meaning from are strange shapes in the sky, and the memories fading. When a person dies their brain produces the chemical that creates dreams in much higher amounts, its a psychotropic chemical similar to LSD and anyone who has done LSD can vouch for strange shapes, and the chemical in question, in your brain is known to produce visual effects similar to that, describes as complex geometric patterns. The memories fading actually ties in with leaving early care, and being taken away, because whereas acid "enhances" your world, the chemical in your brain will completely dissociate your brain from this world. As far as men in black, if they do predate our current conception of them, they can easily be identified as reapers. Perhaps its coincidence but they way i like to interpret it does match up to the lyrics, and im trying to be unbiased when i say this, but i think it matches up just about as well as aliens.
its about death. great band
