Celestial The Queen Lyrics

I'm out of my place I'm out of my mind
Totally bent in the big time
There's no place for one of my kind
Scorn behind shades I don't care anyway

Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen

Her world turns around
In my ear the sound of laughter
Swift descent
Dark and mute dreams deceive

The world turns around me
Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen

She came from the dark she came from a dream
All leather and chains the rising queen
Born into the night born into the spotlight
She spread her wings and then she was gone

Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen

The world turns around
In my head the fury laughter
Swift ascent
And then forever it meant nothing

The world turns around me
Celestial the Queen
Celestial the Queen

The song is clearly about a drag queen nicknamed Celeste or Celestial, the "leather and chains" are themes from BDSM and gay culture in general. The shades mentioned are heavy makeup, the narrator is "out of place", "out of his mind", he feels like that's "no place for one of his kind" and he rationalizes that "it meant nothing" to deal with his own prejudices over his romantic encounter with this "queen" that "came from the dark" and was "born into the night", since during the day Celeste was probably just a man living a "normal" life.

You know, here I had thought at first this song was about a queen honey bee. Born into the night, the darkness of the hive, she spreaded her wings, and then she was gone.

What you say about this being a drag queen makes a ton of sense though!

May be a tough sell to play this at our Christmasy December bee club meeting.

Written in an age before "Political Correctness" censorship...this song is obviously about a transvestite. The British slang for "bent" is homosexual. That said, the title could read Celestial--A Queen. To further illuminate--the reference to "all leather and chains" is yet another homosexual inference. And finally, when this song was written, men in drag were funny looking, hence the "laughter" that "she" inspires. Could be the singer of the song is smitten by Celestial, or had a relationship with "her," and now agonizes over it--but in the end, he says it "meant nothing." Like most of BOC songs, they are shrouded in an element of mystery.

My Interpretation

@fpshot

You make a very compelling case. For 40 years I was sure that this song was about a visit from a Succubus. Not very sure anymore,,,
