Tenderloin Lyrics

I come to you in a blue blue room
By some abuse and some heart
You raise the blinds say, "Let's have light on life,
Let's watch it fall apart. Let's watch it fall apart."

Night time flowers, evening roses
Bless this garden that never closes
Treat her gently, treat her kind
Tenderloin we'll last all night

I'm feeling hungry, have another line
So faith is taken up
You raise your eyes say, "That's just like life,
There's never quite enough. There's just never quite enough."

Night time flowers, evening roses
Bless this garden that never closes
Treat her gently, treat her kind
Tenderloin we'll last all night

I come to you in a blue blue room
By some abuse and some heart
You raise the blinds say, "Let's have light on life,
Let's watch it fall apart. Let's watch it fall apart."

I assume that you are all aware of the band's and untilmately Allen's very personal relationship with Patti Smith. Sometimes we project our own sins upon our idols and neglect the fact of their own [ersonal existence free from our preconceived perceptions. If we look at the timing of certain tunes, the actual time of the writing of a lyric here or there and the concurrent events, well..we might just see something more insightful than a line of coke and a whore as the night burns into dawn...or maybe not.

It's about a prostitute.

It's about Cocaine. A tenderloin is the best cut of Cocaine you can buy. "You raise the blinds say, "Let's have light on life, Let's watch it fall apart. Let's watch it fall apart." Is basically saying to watch it, your life will fall apart if you don't take it easy with the stuff. "Treat her gently, treat her kind Tenderloin will last all night" Being conservative and only doing a line when you need it, it will last you all night.

Considering it was 1975 when Tenderloin was written, cocaine would make sense as to the songs meaning. Or..., cocainewith a prostitute in a blue blue room !?!

It's about life in the "Tenderloin" neighborhood in San Francisco in the mid-seventies.

@MrsHippy Well, I´m just watching a serie named The Alienist and in a scene they mention that name "Tenderloin" as the district in the neighborhood. Have always wondered what Tenderloin is about in this song. Thought it was a nickname of a girl but ....here it just dropped in to my knowledge :)
