Part of this song is about jesus... and whats with everyone assuming all of gish is one big lsd trip? think for yourself for once. This song is about addiction in general.

this is more like a poem than a song. i love the line "all of your struggles beneath your disguise"- its like the masks we wear as faces (and the faces we wear as masks). and how you can be totured on the inside, but all anyone sees is the smiling exterior.

i could be wrong, but after listening to 33, you could make an arguement that this is also about jesus. who knows, open for interpretation.

God damned... why does everybody think that just because you they did a lot of drugs, that's all they wrote about. Some drugs may deepen your feelings or confuse your senses, but you still feel real emotions... The only thing that changes is how deeply you feel about some things, or how those feelings are interpreted. You don't automatically fall in love with LSD, but the love you feel for another person may twist around into God knows what...

Having said that: to me this is a love song. Perhaps he feels transended by a love he feels for somebody and at first he feels that love is returned, but towards the end he begins to think it isn't so... that he was wrong all along... too late to discover peace of mind... and perhaps it sent him down the wrong road as he went into the trip hense "too late to recover". (you see the song isn't about the drug, but about how the drug effects his feelings... to me anyway)

i think your right polyethylenes about how the drug affects is feelings. Hes describing how he is not like everyone else, and in essence, maybe thru psychadelics(or not) he rediscovers himself and builds his own path as opposed to everyone else's since their's doesnt seem to be working for him.

And this path can be a lonely one when u fisrt start out.But the farther u travel, the stronger you get,and maybe u finally find peace with yourself and the world (sorry..forgot to add this)

Does anyones version start off "this is a song about a fish"? Thats what it sounds like anyway, maybe its "gish".

I think this is song is about discovering your own identity in a society that can consume you and control your actions. Its directed as a message toward everyone, not just written about himself. I dont think this song is about addiction though.
