Millionaire say
Got a big shot deal
And thrown it all away but
But I'm not too sure
How I'm supposed to feel
Or what I'm supposed to say
But I'm not, not sure,
Not too sure how it feels
To handle every day
And I miss you love

Make room for the prey
'Cause I'm coming in
With what I wanna say but
It's gonna hurt
And I love the pain
A breeding ground for hate but

I'm not, not sure
Not too sure how it feels
To handle everyday
Like the one that just past
In the crowds of all the people

Remember today
I've no respect for you
And I miss you love
And I miss you love

I love the way you love
But I hate the way
I'm supposed to love you back and

It's just a fad
Part of the teenage angst brigade and
I'm not, not sure,
Not too sure how it feels
To handle everyday
Like the one that just past
In the crowds of all the people

Remember today
I've no respect for you
And I miss you love
And I miss use love

Remember today
I've no respect for you
And I miss you love
And I miss you

I love the way you love
But I hate the way
I'm supposed to love you back

    Song Meaning

To me it is about: Someone with a very negative outlook on love and is a little emotionally dead/apathetic. Basically, someone that doesn't believe in love really, because it is just so overused. He'll engage in sexual relationships, but he doesn't love his partners.

"Millionaire say Got a big shot deal And thrown it all away but"

People say he has something good going for him, but he doesn't want it (possibly a relationship/love interest).

"But I'm not too sure How I'm supposed to feel Or what I'm supposed to say"

He doesn't know what people expect from him in this situation. Going with the love idea, he's not interested in love. He rejects the idea, so what do they want him to say or feel?

"But I'm not, not sure, Not too sure how it feels To handle every day"

Sounds lost in himself, or doesn’t know how to carry on a relationship everyday.

    "And I miss you love"

Love as in the emotion, I assume. I always took it as he missed either the idea of love (before it became overused and dramatic) or his own ability to love another person. Also sounds like "and I misuse love" sometimes, which also makes sense.

"Make room for the prey 'cause I'm coming in With what I wanna say but It's gonna hurt"

He's not going to hold back at all when he explains his feelings or lack thereof. He doesn't really care.

"And I love the pain A breeding ground for hate but..."

A little twisted. He likes causing others emotional pain, possibly because he can't feel it himself, being so apathetic. They'll hate him for it, but oh well. What does he care?

"In the crowds of all the people"

Either loneliness or he just feels lost. Possibly because most people carry out "normal" relationships, and he just doesn't care about love- he’s given up on it.

"Remember today I've no respect for you"

Essentially: I don't care about you. Directed towards a love interest or just love itself.

"I love the you love But I hate the way I'm supposed to love you back"

He likes the feeling of being loved, possibly someone's idea of love, or being made love to, but he doesn't want to have to reciprocate those feelings.

"It's just a fad Part of the teenage angst brigade and"

Love's just a fad in high school. It doesn't mean anything.

i agree that this is one of the most beautiful and meaningful songs ever written... been a big since they started. I have checked a video of 'em and I recall Daniel Johns saying that "..the song is not about being in love, not finding love and not caring about it.."

I hope we can get to see them play one more time.. too bad they have parted ways. love 'em together. but i like the disassociatives too :)

    beautiful. :)

ok, i love this song... maybe i should stop using the word 'love'. it's kind of ironic, see the song's talking about being out of love while i'm raving about how i love the song. i think the lyrics are saying how his view on love changed. or he used to feel but now he can't because of depression maybe. hell, i don't know what i'm talking about. my head isn't working. but i think daniel was very honest in this song. it's kinda like he's saying, he's been using love, abusing it rather. while people around him thinks they know what love is all about, he wallows in lonliness and thinks that love doesn't exist anymore. but really, the meaning of love's evolved over time, into something quite unacceptable. and it's over used. I'd quote somthing from oscar wilde "love is not fashionable anymore. the poets have killed it. they wrote too much about it that nobody believed them."-- i just thought that somehow had a connection to the song.

I think he's talking about how he misses love, but it's failed him and he doesn't want to open up but wants that feeling and doesn't know how to get it. But what do I know....

since allergic was talking about the overusage of the word "love," i won't say that i love this song... i adore it. it's very honest and i think we've all been there at least once. we think we're in love, only to realize that it was simply an infatuation. the feeling is gone, and we partially want it back, but then we remember the hurt and pain that comes with it. daniel is a genius.

I cherish this song, I so relate to what Daniel is saying. Definitely one of the deepest silverchair songs ever. I like how he's taken a negative recipirocal approach to the songs misinterpreted topic ("love") This song is so true especially when the chorus "Remember today I have respect for you"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
