It's twelve o'clock, and it's a wonderful day
I know you hate me, but I'll ask anyway
Won't you come with me to a place in a little town?
The only way to get there's to go straight down
There's no bathroom, and there is no sink
The water out of the tap is very hard to drink
Very hard to drink

You wait 'til tomorrow
You wait 'til tomorrow

You say that money, isn't everything
But I'd like to see you live without it
You think you can keep on going living like a king
Ooh babe, but I strongly doubt it

Very hard to drink
Very hard to drink

You gonna wait 'til, fat boy
Fat boy, wait 'til tomorrow
You gonna wait 'til, fat boy
Fat boy, wait 'til tomorrow

You wait 'til tomorrow
You wait 'til tomorrow

You gonna wait 'til, fat boy
Fat boy, wait 'til tomorrow
You gonna wait 'til, fat boy
Fat boy, wait until tomorrow

I think this song is about a certain type of hypocrite. A rich man who thinks that he knows what the real world is like and that he can survive outside of his bubble. In reality, however, he does not stand a chance in the real world. Achilles could also be correct. I do however disagree with myownprisons post about the fat boy stereotype. I think the fat boy comments are not made with the assumption stated ('I was going to say that calling him a "fat boy" is a stereotype but as I think about it, I guess if you were rich, you would have more to eat. It's still a stereotype, but more like a "semi-stereotype"') however, as another word for capitalist pig. Pig = Fat. This is all my opinion, I could very well be wrong.

This song is about a rich person who takes his life for granted. That is until he has to spend a night in a trashy hotel room he can't stand staying in but can't get out till the next day.

i partly agree with achilles libertine, i think its about daniel looking at someone who is obviously higher class than him and saying, come with me, put up with what people you look down too live with, and ur saying that money isnt all that but u wudnt live without it, money runs out and when it does, you'll regret acting like u acted :)

You say that money isn't everything Well I'd like to see you live without it To me, these words mean that someone who is richer than the speaker of this song says that money isn't that important. I think Daniel wants the richer man to experience what life is like without it. It's easy to claim that money isn't everything, but sadly, we all depend on the government and it's money in order to live.

You're all only looking at that one line about money. Ever thinkit might be about Hell or something? "The only way to get there's to go straight down."

There are many hints in this song as to its meaning. This kid was 16 when they wrote it. Most adult minds are blown when they hear it for the fist time. No only does it kick a$$. Its a life lesson. I will never forget the first time I heard it. I knew the meaning. Especially when he said. There is no sink. And the water out of the tap is very hard to drink. Well.... cuz it ain't there! He's referring to a parable. Luke 16:19–31, New International Version: “ 19“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29“Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” Hope this sheds "light" to everyone who read it.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

@Kahiara Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Matt Paxton
Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."
