Oh as I shit I sit and wonder why
My floor's so cold and my back's broke and tired
Life is good even though it won't be long
With the candle comes emotions
Dancing the shadows on my walls

What were your thoughts
As they were flying through your mind
Compared to what you feel
From the bars you're now behind
If they could speak, what do you think they'd say to you?
I do believe you'd be better off if you just told the truth

I never had a problem till I stood face-to-face with me
And I wish there was a way for me to go inside
So I could see
All the faces of the people who have torn a piece off me
As I grew from a seed, oh to a tree

Can you feel the power of the eyes
It's hidden away five feet from where we lie
What do you taste when you take a drink with me?
Is it too much for me to ask if I was to ask you to leave?
Oh please just leave
'Cause I want to be alone

Oh, there's a fine line between love and my feelings for you
High time we washed it all away
Unkind, you watch your future burn before you
Denied the chance of any love in your life

I never had a problem till I stood face-to-face with me
And I wish there was a way for me to go inside
So I could see
All the faces of the people who have torn a piece Torn a piece off me
As I grew from a seed to a tree.

An awesome song about a failed relationship (probably not romantic, just friendly) where Shannon felt disrespected and hurt...and he realizes what a blessing this all was because it made him stronger. The lyrics are great, but the chorus is awesome.

Never had a problem till I stood face to face with me And I wish there was a way for me to go inside so I could see All the faces of the people who have torn a piece of me As I grew from a seed to a tree

Great lyrics Great Band Great Song

---I think this song is him thinking back on his life.

---When he was young he had a lot of run in's with the police and was arrested several times.

"What were you thoughts, as they Were flying through your mind Compared to what you feel from The bars your now behind

If they could speak, what do you think They would say to you? I do believe you'd been better Off if you'd just told the truth"

    ---He's asking himself this.

"Never had a problem till I stood face to face with me And I wish there was a way for me to go inside so I could see All the faces of the people who have torn a piece of me As I grew from a seed to a tree."

--This is also his conflict with himself (as interpreted from the first line) And he's also thinking of all the people who he has conflicted with as he was growing up (from a seed to a tree)

---Well, that's what I get from the first half of the song. I hope other people can see what I'm getting at.

    My Interpretation

I've always heard the first verse like this:

As I shit I sit and wonder why my floor's so cold in my bathrobe attire It feels good, even though it won't be long When the chemical emotions dance with the shadows on my wall

Makes me think he's preparing for the onset of some psychedelic, taking a pre-trip shit :D

I believe this song is all about his insecurities in life. Simply put, he was bullied as a child, and never had any confidence. And the chorus speaks volumes towards this. Now, as an adult, he blames all of those that made him what he is today. Insecure and feeling unworthy. He somehow wishes they could somehow see how they had a part in his downfall. That is it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
