Of Sins And Shadows Lyrics

Passing through the void
The darkest grand illusion
Chaos is riding on the wind

Destroyed in agony
They create a maddened lair
Summon all to heed their cry

Innocence fading away
- the dying eyes of prey

Desperate cries, hail of fire deciding
All our fate in the night
Tempt in sin, shadows then begin to
Gather the souls they hold within

Victims of desire
Pestilence of their invasion
Forms then take on evil waves

Paralyze, victimize
The shadows fall and enter fast
from the sky - (from the sky)
Summon all to heed their cry

Innocence fading away
- the dying eyes of the prey

Desperate cries, hail of fire deciding
All our fate in the night
Tempt in sin, shadows then begin to
Gather the souls they hold within

I've betrayed - slowly fade
I repent my inner plea
I've denied - sanctified
Cannot hide form this
monstrosity

I'm immersed in a curse
Of this jaded imagery
Realize that your cries
Only jeopardize this legacy

[Solo]

Desperate cries, hail of fire deciding
All our fate in the night
Tempt in sin, shadows then begin to
Gather the souls they hold within

This is a really good song, with extremely good lyrics, the message is hidden deep in the strong words, and i cant find it

I agree, great song, great lyrics and especially a great solo, and it was the song that got me into Symphony X. The 'hidden message' does seem hard to find, if there's really a message behond the lyrics...

This message is about a group of people who all got together have common beliefs, all victims of desire. One person has accidentally become part of this group and wants out, but can't and witnesses some kind of shadow ritual. so it's mainly about Satanists or something of the sort.

I don't think it's about satanists... considering satanism is actually a religion with a moral code of doing whatever to improve yourself, being selfish and materialistic, rather than the whole sacrifice thing everyone stereotypes real stanism. Anyway... other than that, it's a good theory. I'd never really payed much attention to the lyrics.

Actually Satanism the philiosophy, as you've described it, accounts for 99.99% of all Satanists. There are a few that do actually sacrifice people and what not to Satan, and that would be Satanism the religion.

I disagree. Those are just Satan-worshipping cults. A friend's boyfriend used to date a dude who was in one of those satanist cults, so I think I know how they work. Although I do agree with the Satanism I previously described as being more of a philosophy.

Shit, I just re-read that and it came out horrible... what I meant to say was either: "A friend's boyfriend was in a satanist cult" or "a friend of mine used to date a dude who was in a satanist cult", but I kinda got mixed up... oh well...

hehe, oh well don't know nothing about satanism anyway.

this song's about a big fucking battle. and the speaker feels like he might be losing.

or about the legions of hell attacking the people of earth.

or something totally different, who knows.

Satanism falls short of the songs message; Symphony X sings about the very nature of sin and its effect on humans. Sin is addictive; we become " Victims of desire". They, in that passage, reference the common Christian philosophy: Satan is powerless because he is evil. Sin, according to the song, originates from the individual, thus Satan's sin came from his appetites as did ours.
