Prince Of Spades Lyrics

Comin' Back, Comin' Home.
The Queen of love enters the room.
Silence ensues,
Tell the King what have you done to my life?
Did you take me for a fool or for a wife?
I, I, I, I, I, I, I

When the king is in his court,
Countin' all his diamonds.
One by one they do fall.

He says the queen of pride,
The prince of spades is comin' home.
Be nice if you could find some time alone.
After all, he's in line for the throne.

And the king is in his court,
Countin' all his diamonds.
One by one they do fall,
Oh, they do fall.

So now, just get up off your ass,
Leave all your treasures behind.
Your son is comin' home with you to spend time.
Show him how a good king should be.
And don't ever foget the day,
You turned your back on him and me,
Still I stay (2x)

I really like this song-- I didn't really get it at first (I still don't know if I get it) I think what it's about is a husband (the King) who's preoccupied with his money and wealth (the diamonds). He ignores his wife and his son. In the end she tell him to "get up off [his] ass" and pretend to be a father to his son.. The last two lines are the best. "You turned your back on him and me, Still I stay " even though he "abandoned" his wife and kid, she remains loyal and by his side.

Great song. hands down. People need to learn to appreciate more of Dispatch's music than just "The General" even though it is a great song. i havent come across one bad song by them yet.

This song is just great. The first time I heard it when I was listening to Gut The Van, I was just like, wow, amazing. This is probably my favorite of Dispatch's mellow songs. I love the Gut The Van version, the drums are a great addition to the song.

I heard this song for the first time when I bought the live CD set "Gut the Van". Ever since I listened to it the first time I have been listening to it non-stop. I can't go a day without playing this song while driving to school or home from school.

I agree with anna, but have some things to add. The song sounds alot like Harry Chapin's "cats in the cradel". Adding to how the father was to occupied with his money, and that he hasn't spent anytime with his son (The prince of spades is comin' home. Be nice if you could find some time alone. ) But it differs from "Cats in the Cradel" by how the mother and son were abandoned. Still this make a fine song. I liked it

I love this song, the guitar intro kicks ass. I think everyone has inturpreted it pretty good except i think that the queen is more sending a message to him then bitching at him. She says "After all, he's in line for the throne" and then at the end she tell him "And don't ever foget the day, You turned your back on him and me, Still I stay." She doesnt say " still we stay" I dunno just think about it. It kinda sounds like a warning to me.
