Out Loud Lyrics

Would you be the wind
To blow me home?
Would be a dream
On the wings of a poem?
And if we were walking through a crowd,
Well you know I’d be proud
If you’d call my name out loud

If you’d call my name out loud
Do you suppose that I would come running?
Do you suppose I’d come at all?
I suppose I would…

And if we were walking down a dead-end street
Would you be the one to let our eyes meet?
Or would you just keep on walking down to the turnaround?
'Cause you know I'd be proud
If you’d call my name out loud

If you’d call my name out loud
Do you suppose that I would come running?
Do you suppose I’d come at all?
I suppose I would…

And if I was gone
From the land we know
Would you be there, darling?
Would your beauty still show?
And if you were walking,
Heard the cold night coming
Would you call my name?
'Cause you know I would come running
If you’d call my name out loud

If you’d call my name out loud
Do you suppose that I would come running?
Do you suppose I’d come at all?
You know I would… (x4)
I’d come running… (x2)
If you’d call my name out loud

Devotion, if it's what you want.

This about devotion for somoene you truly love. He didnt think about until the questions he was asking to what she felt about their love. Then in the end he confirms how much he loves her and she is the one he will always love and she has nothing to worry. He is confirming to her how much he loves her. not about anyone else. its called true love and devotion of his soul to her as he knows she is insecure and needs confirmation of his love because he may not say it as much as he should.

I asked out my girlfriend with this song. I just sat her down, and played it for her. I felt there was no better way to express my feelings than through this song. It's my favorite by Dispatch.

I guess I have a different interpretation of this song ... Ive used it to represent how one feels about an ex that they want a continued relationship with. i know when i broke up with my boyfriend, and wanted to still be friends with him, i related alot of what i felt to this song. just my idea, tho i could be wrong!

lizard, i agree with you - "would you be the one to let our eyes meet?" - their eyes would only NOT meet if they were averting them, due to shame or anger or embarrassment or awkwardness that comes at the end of a relationship... at least i think.

the song isnt just about devotion, rather its questioning whether either two ex-lovers or two friends want to get together. "and if we were walking down a dead end street would you be the one to let our eyes meet?" who wouldnt their eyes meet unless they werent sure of themselves? this isnt just a love song.

i think it's about a guy telling the women he loves he always will be there for her no matter what.

01lizard01 and sscheisse... I totally agree with you both. I took it as someone wanting to get back with their Ex, but not knowing how that person feels about it. I guess it all depends on when you've heard this song... I first heard it when I really wanted someone back, so that probably had some influence on how I interpreted the lyrics. Great Dispatch song though!

I know this isn't too obvious at fist but at the concert in TD Gardens in Boston Chad says "that this song is for anyone who has lost somebody close to them" and listening again I think it could be about death/someone close dying as well. That's the beauty of a truly great song, it doesn't have one set meaning but can be interpreted and deconstructed by the listener.

After I had my daughter and the man that got me pregnant never saw her and still hasn't I felt this song from her perspective. Either him or her. But now I realize that it is her adopted father who calls her name out loud. And what a beautiful name it is. Brought a lot of tears to my eyes. I played it for him when I met him. We have been together since she was nine weeks old. I was separated from the bio since I was five months pregnant. So he has never been around for the birth or anything. Not financially. Nothing. The story gets worse. But that's all I can divulge. The song moved me Into hopes and prayers that she would have a father that loved her, one that wouldn't ignore her existence and would appreciate her. It was an anthem. Miracles happen every day. Don't give up.
