I agree with anna, but have some things to add. The song sounds alot like Harry Chapin's "cats in the cradel". Adding to how the father was to occupied with his money, and that he hasn't spent anytime with his son (The prince of spades is comin' home.
Be nice if you could find some time alone. ) But it differs from "Cats in the Cradel" by how the mother and son were abandoned. Still this make a fine song. I liked it
