Lonely Fields Lyrics

Carry the corn in a bag
Shiny day
How I love this spot
Those Saturdays out there
In the fields
With my daddy's scent

On our way home
Two on the road
Bags are all full
The crows are loud

Oh, how I do miss
Those sunny days
And the moped's roar

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Lying in bed
Hearing the corn field crows
Like a child would cry

Open the window
And see the glow
Like a spirit
Dim in the night

On my way out
Follow the light
So late at night
A sign of life?

I'm feeling well
Now as I stroll
And I wear a smile

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Back to the sunny day
I'll be doing so fine
So clear is the silhouette
Reaching out in the night
Holding on to his soul
Father, please don't you go
Together we pick the corn
And then I'm going home

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

Better believe it
Now I can see it
And I surrender
The crow may now enter

Those lonely fields in the night
Father, I walk with you

I'll walk with you
And the walk goes on
I'm coming home with you
And it goes on, with you
And the walk goes on
I'm coming home with you

Cover art for Lonely Fields lyrics by Volbeat

In a recent track-by-track with Rocksound.TV, Michael Poulson stated that this is one of his most personal, emotional songs he's written. “When I was a young kid, on Saturdays during the Summer, my Dad and I would go on his moped to the cornfields to pick corn for his birds. He had a lot of birds at home. I just remember the rides on the bike. I could smell the apple trees and the pear trees as we passed them, and we could smell the cornfields and hear all the crows. In the song, I bring myself back to that time, and I can kind of smell the scent of him. Then, I wake up during the night because there are birds and crows calling from outside the window. They’re all circling around the house I live in, and from my bedroom I can look out to a huge cornfield. These birds keep waking me up and as I look out the window, I see the light of the cornfield and the spirit of my father trying to get me to come outside to pick corn with him for the birds. Finally, I leave the house and go outside and walk the lonely fields with him where we pick all the corn. I tell him not to go away, and I see a clear silhouette of him. I decide to walk with him and we disappear. But the last thing I’m singing in the song is, ‘I walk with him and I’m coming home with him.’ So that’s a very, very emotional song for me and I’m proud of it.”
