In a recent track-by-track with Rocksound.TV, Michael Poulson stated that this is one of his most personal, emotional songs he's written. “When I was a young kid, on Saturdays during the Summer, my Dad and I would go on his moped to the cornfields to pick corn for his birds. He had a lot of birds at home. I just remember the rides on the bike. I could smell the apple trees and the pear trees as we passed them, and we could smell the cornfields and hear all the crows. In the song, I bring myself back to that time, and I can kind of smell the scent of him. Then, I wake up during the night because there are birds and crows calling from outside the window. They’re all circling around the house I live in, and from my bedroom I can look out to a huge cornfield. These birds keep waking me up and as I look out the window, I see the light of the cornfield and the spirit of my father trying to get me to come outside to pick corn with him for the birds. Finally, I leave the house and go outside and walk the lonely fields with him where we pick all the corn. I tell him not to go away, and I see a clear silhouette of him. I decide to walk with him and we disappear. But the last thing I’m singing in the song is, ‘I walk with him and I’m coming home with him.’ So that’s a very, very emotional song for me and I’m proud of it.”
